In Mother Emanuel, Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Kevin Sack traces the long arc of Black life in Charleston, using the microcosm of one extraordinary congregation to explore two centuries of faith, resistance, and perseverance.

Between the shofar’s blast and Yom Kippur’s fast, reflect on the past year and set intentions for our new year—together in community.

Tashlich, the beloved tradition of symbolically casting away our mistakes into a body of water, comes alive in a short, engaging program at Lausanne Collegiate School’s lake: first for adults at 10AM, followed by families at 11:30AM. Families are invited to stay for lunch and activities until 1PM, including artist-guided family painting, lawn games, and canoeing!

This High Holy Days custom, Kever Avot, bridges our past, present, and future in the most moving format. Carry the spirit of our loved ones who are no longer with us into the new year. Join our clergy next Sunday morning, September 13 at 10am for a brief, meditative, musical offering in the Levy-Cooper Chapel of our beautiful Temple Israel Cemetery.

Please note: You do not have to have loved ones resting in our cemetery to participate in this ritual.
