This last week we were able to deliver boxes of food to a church already doing some pretty amazing work and we were able to help serve a meal at Memphis Union Mission. How will you extend the presence of Jesus this week?

A pastoral word.
There a moments when the cultural noise gets so loud that silence starts to feel like indifference or agreement. This feels like one of those moments.

As a church, and as followers of Jesus, we are not here to comment on every headline or align ourselves with a political tribe. But we are here to bear witness to who Jesus is.

At the center of the gospel is this truth: every human being bears the image of God. Not some people. Not people who look like us, vote like us, or agree with us. Every person. The gospel leaves no room for dehumanizing anyone.

Jesus didn’t speak about people with contempt or reduce them to threats or categories. He moved toward those who were being pushed aside and confronted power when it crushed the weak. His posture consistently honored human dignity.

So when public rhetoric or behavior dehumanizes people, whether through racist imagery, degrading language, or mistreatment of the foreigner, we want to be clear: that is not the way of Jesus. And it is not the gospel we proclaim.

This is not about being progressive or conservative. It’s not about parties or platforms. Followers of Jesus can disagree deeply about policy and how best to pursue justice, order, or the common good.

But as a community of faith, we name and resist all the forms of dehumanization. We pay attention to the ways language, attitudes, and actions can deny the worth of another person, and we must refuse to make peace with that. We believe honoring the dignity of every person is at the very heart of the gospel and the way of Jesus.

So as followers of Jesus, we seek to let his character shape how we speak, how we listen, and how we see others, aware that we are always learning and still being formed. We hope our lives and our witness increasingly reflect his love, his humility, and his courage.

Jesus is not threatened by differences, and he is never cruel. He embodied the humanity we are meant to experience and so we are committed to following him. The Christ we serve honors the dignity of every person and refuses to trade love for power, and that is the posture we must remain committed to living out.

A multi-ethnic church in Memphis?

Our church began as a dream in the summer of 2003. God drew together people from within Memphis and from around the country to pursue a new expression of a Biblical functioning community in the city of Memphis.

The dream was a church where people from all seasons of life could grasp the gospel at a transformational level. And they could live out the gospel for the welfare of the city and God's fame among the nations.

That core group begged God to gather a group that looked like Memphis with her beautiful and powerful racial, socio-economic and generational diversity.
