🙏 Why Do We Pray for the Dead?

As we approach All Souls’ Day on November 2, it's a beautiful time to reflect on one of the most comforting traditions of our Catholic faith.

We believe that death does not break the bonds of love and prayer. We continue to pray for those who have died, asking God to welcome them into the fullness of His eternal peace.

Our prayers are especially offered for souls in Purgatory, who are being purified in preparation for the joy of Heaven.

This tradition is rooted in Scripture, including 2 Maccabees 12:46, which speaks of praying for the dead so that they may be freed from sin.

❤️ When we pray for those who have gone before us, we remind ourselves that love does not end with death.

🕯️ Remembering Our Parish Family

During all Masses on November 7 and 8, Saint Joseph Parish will prayerfully remember and honor the parishioners who have passed away over the past year.

We invite our parish family to join us as we remember these beloved members of our community and lift them and their families up in prayer.

✝️ Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. May they rest in peace. Amen.

✝️ Why does the priest kiss the altar at Mass?

Have you ever noticed that Father Ken and all priests kiss the altar at the beginning and end of Mass?

This simple gesture has a beautiful meaning!

The altar represents Christ, who is both the priest and the sacrifice of the Eucharist. By kissing the altar, the priest shows reverence and love for Christ.

The altar is also a sacred place where the sacrifice of the Mass is celebrated.

❤️ The next time you’re at Mass, watch for this small but meaningful gesture!

Please be advised of our Parish expectations regarding children at Mass:

📣 If your kids are loud, please still come to Mass.

⏰ If you’re running late because getting everyone dressed and out the door was a battle, please still come to Mass.

🤪 If your toddler won’t sit still, please still come to Mass.

👶 If your baby needs to eat, please still come to Mass.

⁉️ If your child asks questions at the least convenient moment, please still come to Mass.

🚽 If someone cries, drops a toy, or has to make their third trip to the bathroom, please still come to Mass.

🪑 If your child doesn’t know all the prayers, responses, or exactly when to sit, stand, and kneel, please still come to Mass.

🧐 If you feel like you spent the entire Mass managing your children and heard approximately 12% of the homily, please still come to Mass.

🌪️ If Sunday morning feels messy instead of peaceful, please still come to Mass.

🫣 If you’re worried your children are distracting the people around you, please still come to Mass.

💖 If your child has a disability or special needs, please still come to Mass.

⛪️ Children do not learn how to be part of the Church by staying home until they can sit quietly. They learn by being here.

✝️ They learn the Sign of the Cross by watching us make it.

🙏 They learn the prayers by hearing us pray them.

📖 They learn the Scriptures by hearing the Word of God proclaimed.

🧎‍♀️‍➡️ They learn reverence by watching us kneel.

❤️ They learn that Jesus is truly present in the Eucharist by seeing the love and reverence with which we approach to receive Him.

💒 They learn that the Church is their home because we make room for them here.

🖍️ The wiggles, whispers, dropped crayons, crying babies, and little voices are not signs that children don't belong at Mass. They are signs that the Church is ALIVE!

💛 So bring the babies. Bring the toddlers. Bring the big kids. Come late if you must. Sit in the front so the littles can see. Sit in the back if necessary. Step out when you need to… but always come back in.

💧 At Baptism, these children became members of the Body of Christ. They belong here. They need the grace of the Sacraments, the example of their parents, and the love and patience of their parish family.

Children are not simply the future of the Catholic Church. They are part of the Church right now!

Religious Education begins September 13, and we cannot accept registrations once classes have begun.

If your child will be participating this year and is not yet registered, please register now.

Our classes, catechists, and supplies are planned according to enrollment, and with our condensed program, every class is important.

Holy Day of Obligation Update – Solemnity of the Assumption

This year, the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary falls on Saturday, August 15.

In the Archdiocese of Boston, when certain Holy Days of Obligation fall on a Saturday or Monday, the obligation to attend Mass is lifted. Therefore, there is no obligation to attend Mass for the Assumption this year.

Even though the obligation is lifted, we warmly invite you to celebrate this beautiful feast by joining us for Mass at Saint Joseph Parish:

🕓 Saturday Vigil Mass: 4:00 PM
🕗 Sunday Masses: 8:00 AM & 10:00 AM

We hope you will join us as we honor our Blessed Mother and give thanks for her faithful witness to Christ. 🌹

A reminder that you can still access the Parish Center during construction. Let the officer know where you are going and he will allow you to travel through.

🚧 Holliston Street Project Update: Road Closure Beginning July 6 🚧

We want to provide an update regarding the upcoming infrastructure improvements on Holliston Street. The town has finalized the water main replacement plan and has coordinated closely with the developer to streamline the upcoming work.

To complete this project as safely and quickly as possible, we have mutually decided to implement a full road closure starting Sunday, July 6.

⏳ Why a full closure? Enacting a full closure from the start allows crews to complete the water main replacement and transition immediately into the hill regrading phase. This coordinated approach will significantly expedite both phases of the project, rather than trying to maintain traffic during the water main work only to close the road later.

🗺️ Detours & Schedule: Beginning July 6, the attached detour and traffic plan will remain in effect until both aspects of the work are completed. Please review the map to plan your alternate routes.
