What if a blessing doesn't look the way we think it should?

In Sunday's message, "Paradoxical Truths," Pastor Rusty explored Jesus' words from Matthew 5 and the surprising truth that God's kingdom often works opposite of the world's expectations.

As Pastor Rusty shared, "God will bless the surrendered life." He also reminded us that "Brokenness changes everything."

One of the most memorable images from the message came through these words:

"You've got to go down if you want to come up. You've got to go lower if you want to go higher. It's the inside-outside, upside-down kingdom where you lose to gain and you die to live."

Jesus says, "Blessed are the poor in spirit," teaching us that when we reach the end of our own strength, we discover the strength, grace, and provision of God.

A Little Piece of Methodist History Still Burning Bright

Many of us have seen the long brass pole used during worship, but may not realize it is part of a long Methodist tradition. Known as a Candlelighter with Bell Snuffer, it is often carried by acolytes to light the altar candles at the beginning of worship service. The light serves as a reminder of Christ, the Light of the World.

Pictured here is Marvin Wilson carefully preparing the wick inside one of our church's candlelighters. It may seem like a small task, but it is one of those behind-the-scenes acts of service that helps preserve a meaningful tradition passed down through generations of worshipers.

Week after week, Marvin faithfully makes sure the candlelighter is ready, allowing our acolytes to continue this beautiful practice. His quiet dedication is a reminder that the life of the church is sustained not only by those seen in front of the congregation, but also by those who faithfully serve behind the scenes.

As we prepare to celebrate 200 years of ministry, we give thanks for the traditions that connect us to our past and for faithful servants like Marvin who help keep those traditions alive.

Sermon: The Jesus Model
Scripture: John 1:35-42

What does it really mean to be a disciple of Jesus?

This Sunday, Pastor Rusty explored how Jesus models the path of discipleship through four simple invitations found throughout the Gospel of John: Come and See, Come and Follow Me, Come and Be with Me, and Remain in Me.

Through the example of Jesus' first disciples, we are reminded that faith is more than a one-time decision. It is a daily journey of seeking Christ, following His lead, spending time in His presence, and remaining connected to Him as the source of our strength and growth.

Pastor Rusty challenged us to examine our own walk with Christ: Are we simply showing up, or are we truly remaining connected to the Vine throughout the week?

A meaningful message that encourages us to deepen our relationship with Jesus and follow His example—the Jesus Model.

This is what church is all about ❤️

Coming together in prayer. Standing beside one another through life’s joys, struggles, worries, and victories. Being reminded that no one has to carry burdens alone.

One of the greatest blessings of a church family is knowing there are people who will pray with you, encourage you, and help point your heart back to Christ when life feels heavy.

In a world that can often feel disconnected, church is a place where people still gather, care deeply, and lift one another up in faith and prayer.

Life can be a little unpredictable sometimes… and honestly, so can technology 😄

Thankfully, both are a little easier when you have a church family walking beside you.

One of the beautiful things about being part of a church family is the encouragement we find in one another—people to pray with you, laugh with you, lift you up during difficult moments, and help keep your eyes focused on Christ through it all.

And speaking of encouragement… we sure appreciate our Tech Team! Every Sunday they faithfully battle microphones, cables, remotes, and the occasional “mystery computer moment” to help worship run smoothly. Not all heroes wear capes… some carry keyboards, remotes, and cables 😄 We love and appreciate these guys more than they know!

Pentecost Sunday was a powerful reminder that the same Holy Spirit who filled the believers in Acts 2:1–4 is still alive and moving today. Pastor Rusty shared how Pentecost marks the birth of the church and reminds us that God has not left us alone. Through His Word, the gathering of believers, baptism, communion, and the guidance of the Holy Spirit, we are equipped and called to go and share the hope of Christ with the world around us.

Where is the excitement of that first Pentecost today? It is still here — present among God’s people and at work through His church.

This moment was a beautiful reminder that God is always calling hearts—no matter how young. 💛

With a quiet, tender heart, a sweet 9-year-old chose Jesus—not because she had to, but because she truly wanted to. You could see it in her eyes… real faith, real love. As she came up from the water, there was a joy about her that said everything—simple, pure, and full of light. Heaven celebrated… and so did we. 💧✨

That same calling is for all of us.

What a joyful morning this past Sunday celebrating milestones, accomplishments, and God’s faithfulness within our church family! ❤️ 🙌 ✟

Pictured left to right are Eva Johnston, celebrating her High School Graduation; Sophia Westfall, recognized for 8th Grade Graduation; Pastor Rusty Johnston, completed rigorous steps to become ordained as a Deacon through the Global Methodist Church this June, and Susan Spence, who had the honor of presenting and recognizing each individual during our special Recognition Sunday celebration.

While a few of those recognized were unable to be with us on Sunday, we were grateful to celebrate each accomplishment and milestone together as a church family. From academic achievements to meaningful ministry milestones, it was a beautiful reminder that hard work, dedication, and faithfulness are blessings worth celebrating. Congratulations to all — we are proud of each of you and excited for what lies ahead! 🎓✨
