Steps of “Visio Divina”
• Center yourself by taking a deep breath. Relax your body into a comfortable posture.
• Slowly and carefully "read" the image without trying to interpret it. Take note of the elements in the painting (see list of "Elements of Art" below).
• Respond to the image. You may want to focus on one section or element. You may choose to contemplate the image as a whole.
• Enter into prayer. Move beyond what you see and think.
Be present to what you feel as you contemplate the painting.
• When ready, move from prayer to quiet contemplation; and then, when ready, end your time with the image.

World Communion Sunday

The railroad crossing at 10th Street and US 83 will be closed on Sunday, October 4 from 8 AM to 5 PM. So if your usual route to church brings you through that intersection, please remember to shift over to another street this week. It looks like the closure will be confined to 10th Street, so shifting over a block should allow you to be at the church in plenty of time for the final session of the Peacemaking Sunday School class at 9:30. Or certainly in time for World Communion worship at 10:30.

A Peace Pole was prepared by participants in the Peacemaking Sunday School class. The first Peace Pole was created in 1955 in Japan by Masahisa Goi, as a response to the destruction wrought by World War Il and the atomic bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Goi wished to spread a message of peace worldwide. The phrase "May Peace Prevail on Earth", attributed to Goi, is inscribed on all Peace Poles. The Peacemaking class hopes this pole will keep us mindful of the need for peace in our lives and throughout the world.

If you cannot attend on Sunday but would like to be part of an effort to make sure our non-driving neighbors can get to a polling location, look for opportunities to sign up for a transportation shift during Early Voting.

Today we remember Dick Kozma, former longtime member who crafted our Power of Hope offering box and who went to be with the Lord this past week. Prayers of peace for his family from all the members of this congregation. His obituary is included in the comments on this post.
