3-Day Devotional
A Light Shining in the Darkness
2 Peter 1:19–21

Day 1 — God Has Given Us a Certain Word
Scripture:
“And we have the prophetic word more fully confirmed, to which you will do well to pay attention…”
— 2 Peter 1:19
We live with uncertainty every day. We may wonder about our health, finances, family, work, or what tomorrow will bring. As the sermon points out, uncertainty can easily produce anxiety.
Yet in the middle of an uncertain world, God has given His people something certain.
“God has been so gracious to us to give us his certain word.”
The Bible does not answer every question we may have. It does not tell us exactly whom we will marry, guarantee financial success, or tell us the day of our death. But it does reveal something far more important: the character, promises, and saving work of God.
Peter had personally witnessed the glory of Jesus Christ, yet he still directs believers to the sure Word God has given. Scripture is not built upon speculation or “cleverly invented stories.” It is dependable, firm, and trustworthy.
When circumstances are uncertain, God's Word remains certain.
Reflection:
What uncertainty is weighing on your heart today? Are you allowing that uncertainty to overshadow what God has already clearly promised in His Word?
Prayer Outline:
• Thank God for giving us His sure and trustworthy Word.
• Confess where fear or uncertainty has weakened your trust in Him.
• Ask God to help you rest in His promises rather than your circumstances.
• Pray for a growing confidence in the truth of Scripture.

Day 3 — You Can Trust Him in Every Way

Scripture

«“This voice we ourselves heard borne from heaven, for we were with him on the holy mountain.”
— 2 Peter 1:18»

Peter wanted believers to know that Christianity rests upon solid ground. He had witnessed the historical ministry and miracles of Jesus. The Old Testament promises concerning the Messiah had been fulfilled. And believers also possess the inward testimony of the Holy Spirit.

The sermon describes these together as “a solid cord of certainty.”

And certainty produces courage.

That is where this sermon becomes deeply personal. Christ is not merely glorious in the abstract. He is the glorious Savior in whom His people can place their complete confidence.

The sermon concludes:

“You can trust him in every way.”

Trust Him with your cares.
Trust Him with your family.
Trust Him with your finances.
Trust Him with your future.
Trust Him with your very life.

Peter’s majestic Christ is not distant from His people. He is our faithful Lord.

The sermon leaves us with this encouragement:

“Walk this week with that glorious Christ before your eyes.”

Whatever this week brings, remember who walks with you.

Reflection:
What is one area of your life that you are struggling to entrust completely to Christ? What would trusting Him in that area look like this week?

Prayer Outline:

- Thank God for the certainty we have in Christ.
- Praise Him for the testimony of Scripture concerning Jesus.
- Identify before God the cares or fears you are struggling to surrender.
- Ask for greater courage because Christ is trustworthy.
- Commit your family, finances, future, and life to the Lord.
- Pray that you would walk this week with the glory of Christ before your eyes.

Closing Thought

Christ is the One promised in the Old Testament, revealed in the incarnation, displayed in glory at the transfiguration, raised from the dead, and coming again.

Therefore, Christian confidence is not confidence in ourselves.

Our confidence is in Christ—the Majestic One.

Day 2 — Eyewitnesses of His Majesty

Scripture:

«“For we did not follow cleverly devised myths… but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty.”
— 2 Peter 1:16»

Peter’s confidence in Jesus was not based upon a cleverly invented religious story. He had seen Christ.

On the mountain of transfiguration, Peter witnessed something extraordinary. Matthew tells us that Jesus’ face shone like the sun. Mark describes His clothing as intensely white, and Luke says His clothing flashed like lightning. Peter later looked back upon that moment and said that he and the other apostles had been “eyewitnesses of his majesty.”

The sermon makes an important observation:

“No matter how glorious Jesus was on that mountain, He is far more glorious now.”

The transfiguration gave the disciples a glimpse of who Jesus truly is. He is not merely a teacher, prophet, or example. He is the majestic Son of God—the glorious King whose dominion will never pass away.

And this majestic Christ is the same Christ who saves us, keeps us, intercedes for us, and will one day return in glory.

When our problems appear large, we need a larger vision of Christ.

Reflection:
What concern, fear, or burden has appeared especially large to you lately? How does seeing Christ as the majestic and glorious King change the way you view it?

Prayer Outline:

- Praise Jesus as the majestic Son of God.
- Worship Him for His glory, power, and eternal kingdom.
- Confess where you have allowed circumstances to appear greater than Christ.
- Ask God to give you a greater vision of Christ through His Word.
- Pray for confidence in Christ’s rule over every circumstance.

Christ the Majestic One

2 Peter 1:12–18

Day 1 — Stirred Up by Remembrance

Scripture:

«“Therefore I intend always to remind you of these qualities, though you know them and are established in the truth that you have.”
— 2 Peter 1:12»

Peter knew that Christians need to be reminded of truths they already know. The Christian life is not built upon constantly discovering something new, but upon continually returning to the great truths God has already revealed.

The sermon reminds us:

“We can never stop hearing the gospel.”

We need to remind ourselves daily of God’s holiness, our sinfulness, His great grace toward us, and our need to repent of our sins.

Peter does not merely want our memories refreshed intellectually. He says he wants to “stir you up by putting you in remembrance.” There is an urgency to remembering. We easily become distracted, spiritually sleepy, and occupied with lesser things.

And this remembering is not only for ourselves. Peter calls believers to “make every effort.” The sermon challenges us to be earnest about passing the faith to those who come after us—our children, grandchildren, and the next generation of believers.

Reflection:
What gospel truth do you most need to remind yourself of today? Are you intentionally helping someone else become established in that same truth?

Prayer Outline:

- Thank God for giving us His unchanging truth.
- Confess how easily you forget the gospel and become distracted.
- Ask the Holy Spirit to stir your heart through the Word.
- Pray for your children, grandchildren, and the next generation.
- Ask God to make you faithful in reminding others of Christ.
