With joy , peace and hope in the resurrected Lord, Rev.Sr. Magdalen Margaret Abraham a handmaiden of Christ and our beloved sister departed on Tuesday December 7th, 2021 at 7.35 PM in Boston, Massachussetts.
Sr. Magdalen Margaret (Achammakutty Abraham) was born as the seventh child of late Chachikutty and T. Abraham Vazhayil in Kunnankarry, Kerala, India. She came to the United States in the early 1970s and completed her bachelor’s degree at the University of Massachussetts in Boston, Massachusetts. As she was a very spiritual person, she was called into the Sisterhood with a new name Magdalen Margaret by the late lamented Patriarch H. H. Moran Mor Ignatius Yakoob III of blessed memory on June 27, 1976. Later in 1980 H. E. Abraham Mor Clemis, the
Chief Metropolitan tonsured her as a Nun. She was called ‘Chechy’ by her family, many members of St. Stephen’s Knanaya church, Boston, and by many others. Rev. Sister Magdalen is the younger sister of V. Rev. Abraham Thomas Cor-episcopo, the second Administrator of the North American Knanaya Community
Rev. Sister was the first nun to be ordained from the North American Knanaya Community. She was a woman of prayer and resolute in all things. She was instrumental in initiating programs for the women of the North American Knanaya Community and served as the founding Vice President of the North American Knanaya Women’s Organization (NAKWO). She was very caring and strived to love and serve all people around her. She donated her time and resources for the Community and was focused on serving the Lord. She was the driving force for the initiation of spiritual activities such as the NAKWO Prayer line, retreats for families and publishing of the NAKWO church calendar etc. She was serving as the Vice President of the NAKWO at the time of her departure
Rev. Sister also supported fund raising for different charitable organizations in the Knanaya Community, such as the Clergy Education Fund, the Mor Clemis Fund (for assisting widows), the Mor Severios Education Fund, etc. May her dedication to God and the Knanaya Community be a great example for all.
