This Sunday’s service: The definition of music is ‘organized sound,’ which makes humans the only species that create music. Come argue that idea with us, as we take a tour of music from its origins through to last week and discover why it has the power to reach into our very souls. Our journey will be punctuated with tunes sung and played for you by Caitlin and Ian McIntyre and Margot Law, and of course, we will all lift our voices together. This Sunday’s service: Throughout history there have been guides who have laid down a path that connects life and death. Accompanied by several music videos, this service will review ideas of the afterlife, how remembering death can help us to remember to live our best life and finally, a look at the hospice movement through the eyes of a hospice volunteer. Following the service, there will be a listening service offered in the community room led by two UUCAV lay ministers for those who would like to share their personal stories surrounding death and dying. Especially in the United States, but in other places as well, we see democracy in peril, hate running rampant, and diversity demonized. It is no wonder so many of us are asking, “What if anything can I do?” The pace can feel relentless—overwhelming, even. Yet our faith tradition offers guidance for moments like this. Rev. This Sunday’s service: Neighbors and friends are welcome to bring their animal companions, in body or in spirit, for a collective blessing. We will assemble in a shady spot to celebrate and honor the dignity of every being with whom we live, complemented by spiritual and philosophical readings by St. Francis, David Abram, and Donna Haraway. Shana Dumont Garr will lead the service. There will be no online service this week.
