April 12, 10:30 AM) Dr. Sam Wormley continues his series on "Conversations with Papa Joe" which appeared serially in "Science84-86", which was his first introduction to the writings of astronomer and writer, Alan Lightman.The story that teaches some very fundamental ideas about astronomy and how we do astronomy and science. Papa Joe was certainly a likable character--a curious man with a good head on his shoulders. Sam found it was a great joy to re-discover this story as one of many essays in the collection titled, "A Modern Day Yankee In A Connecticut Court". He emailed Alan Lightman asking permission to air his story on community radio. Lightman was more than obliging. Mike Meetz and Sam recorded a dramatization of the story that was regularly aired on KHOI Community radio. Sam also created a four-week OLLI course around the story--each of the four parts is an introduction to recent advances in astronomy.

Something good to remember when we're getting tired and wondering if the resistance is doing anything:

The words of Cole Arthur Riley remind us that resistance is not only about changing systems of power. It is also about protecting the integrity of our own spirits.

For people of faith, this work is about conscience. About refusing to let cruelty, fear, or indifference reshape who we are. About choosing care, courage, and solidarity even when the outcome is uncertain.

In difficult times, resistance can be a way of keeping our humanity intact — and of helping others remember theirs.

May we hold fast to that calling, and help awaken the courage and compassion that still lives in our communities.
