JONAH 1 | YOU CAN’T OUTRUN GOD

This past Sunday, we began our journey through Jonah. Jonah ran from God’s call, but God relentlessly pursued him, even in his rebellion.

And Jonah’s story points us to Jesus:

Jonah ran from people he didn’t want God to save.
Jesus ran toward the people He came to save.

Jonah was willing to die because he was running from God’s will.
Jesus willingly died because He was perfectly obeying God’s will.

Jonah went down into the sea because of his rebellion.
Jesus went down into death because of our rebellion.

Jonah was thrown into the storm so the sailors could live.
Jesus entered the storm of God’s judgment so that we could live.

That’s the gospel.

This Sunday, we begin a new sermon series through the book of Jonah!

Jonah is a familiar story, but there is so much more to this little book than a man and a fish. Jonah confronts our tendency to run from God, our struggle to extend grace to people we don’t think deserve it, and the incredible mercy of a God who pursues sinners.

Over the next few weeks, we’ll walk verse by verse through Jonah and see what this book teaches us about God’s character, our hearts, and His mission to the nations.

We’ve finished our journey through 1, 2, and 3 John.

Over these past several weeks, we’ve been reminded of what it means to know the truth, walk in the truth, love one another, remain faithful to Christ, and live as a church on mission.

John gives us a simple but challenging picture of the Christian life: know the truth, walk in the truth, and live the truth together.

Grateful for all the Lord has taught us through these letters. And grateful for a church that wants to keep growing in faithfulness to Jesus.

This Sunday, we start a new series through Jonah. Hope to see you there!

Here’s a quick recap from 2 John this past Sunday!

John reminds us that truth and love are never meant to be separated. If we are going to love rightly, live faithfully, and remain joyful in Christ, we must remain rooted in the truth about Jesus.

This Sunday, we’ll be in 3 John as we conclude our “That We May Know” series through 1, 2, and 3 John.

One of the things we love about going through books of the Bible is that we let God’s Word set the agenda. We walk through the text verse by verse, allowing Scripture to shape what we believe, how we live, and how we follow Jesus.

The Bible matters because God has spoken, and we want to be a church that knows His Word, loves His Word, and lives His Word.

Join us this Sunday as we finish our journey through 1, 2, and 3 John!
