Wiley Church

Wiley Church We are a family of believers united by a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. All are welcome. The ministries of Wiley had a unique beginning.

It is an outgrowth of a ministry that began during the depression years of the early 1930’s. At that crucial time there was a dire need in the city of Camden, New Jersey. There was no work, no money, and in many instances whole families were deprived of the bare necessities of life. The Reverend John S. Hackett was appointed as pastor of the Wiley Methodist Church in March 1927. Thereafter, he fou

nd himself not only concerned with the spiritual needs of his church, but also greatly involved in the suffering and deprivation of the community. He, his wife Jenny, and his small congregation began to deal with those needs. In time Wiley Mission moved to its present location in Marlton and in 1940 began to dedicate all of its efforts in health care to the aging and frail elderly. Wiley Church’s ministry to the surrounding communities and our Mission’s particular calling to the elderly is centered and motivated by the words of Jesus Christ “I was hungry and you gave me something to eat. I was thirsty and you gave me a drink. I was a stranger and you took me in. I was naked and you clothed me. In whatever you have done to the least of these my brothers, you have done it to me. “ (Matthew 25 35-40)
We’ve taken this same motivation in providing a church in which the entire family can find compassion, care, and lasting relationships with God and others.

Pentecost is sometimes referred to as the Birthday of the church. The Holy Spirit’s presence means that Jesus’ mission to establish the Kingdom on earth was handed off to His followers.
This means there is sooo much more to the life of a Christian than just a prayer to get to make it into heaven.
It is power with a purpose! Are you living in both?

As a pastor, and "occasional" disciple maker, I confess that many times I allow myself to be hustling for the church calendar and not actually intentional about the Great Commission. Can we be transparent about this in our churches that we look for efficiency and numbers, comparison and programs, and therefore overlook the simple but difficult purpose of the church?

Jesus made it crystal clear that there is a singular product that He equates with the mission of the church “Go and make disciples of all nations” (Matthew 28:19). Every church’s mission is the same.
