From the outside, Joseph’s circumstances don’t exactly look like evidence of God’s presence.

He was betrayed by his brothers.
Sold into slavery.
Taken to a foreign land.
Falsely accused.
Thrown into prison.
Forgotten.

But four times in Genesis 39, we’re told something different: ✨ the Lord was with Joseph. ✨ And seven times, we’re told that God favored him, prospered him, or caused him to succeed.

Joseph’s story is a reminder that even when it might not feel like it, God is with us.

His presence doesn’t mean we’ll never face hardship or injustice. Joseph’s life proves that. But wherever we are, God has not left us.

And there’s something else we can’t miss: God’s presence in Joseph’s life was visible.

Potiphar saw it. The prison warden saw it. The people around Joseph experienced the blessing of God because God was with him.

👉 Because our God is not a private God.

The grace He gives us isn’t meant to stop with us. His presence isn’t something we’re meant to tuck away when we walk out the front door. It should shape how we live, what we say, how we work, how we love, how we respond to hardship, and how we treat the people around us.

And when we allow His light to shine through us, it will bless others.

So ask yourself this week: would someone who doesn’t yet know Jesus see Him in my life?

God is with you. Don't keep Him hidden.

Temptation isn’t always wanting the wrong thing. Sometimes it’s wanting a good thing the wrong way.

🙏 Pray for discernment. A good desire can still lead to a wrong choice when we’re willing to meet it outside of God’s design.

Satan’s not just trying to trip you up. He’s trying to take you out. 😈 He will do ANYTHING to create distance between you and God — and one of his favorite methods is appealing to our desires.

Scripture doesn’t promise us a temptation-free life. Instead, it gives us a promise that is far better: we are never tempted outside of God’s grace. 🙌

1 Corinthians 10:13 tells us that God is faithful. He will not allow us to be tempted beyond what we can bear, and when temptation comes, He provides a way out so that we can endure it.

That means temptation never catches God by surprise.

If He has allowed it, He is still sovereign over it. He sees the temptation from beginning to end. He knows where it leads, and He has already provided the grace and strength we need to respond faithfully. Even when we fail, our failure doesn’t mean God has lost control.

So how do we deal with temptation when it comes?

✨ Recognize it.
Don’t become so confident in your spiritual strength that you stop taking temptation seriously. Know your vulnerabilities. Stay humble. Pay attention to the situations, desires, and thought patterns that can pull you away from God.

✨ Pray before it happens.
Jesus taught us to pray, “Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.” Don’t wait until you’re in the middle of the battle to ask God for strength. Pray now for wisdom, discernment, and the power of the Holy Spirit to recognize temptation and respond faithfully when it comes.

✨ Submit to God and resist the devil.
James 4:7 says, “Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” Notice the order: submission comes first. We don’t overcome temptation by relying on our own willpower. We overcome it by placing ourselves under God’s authority and relying on His strength.

And remember: God provides the way out, but we have to take it.

We see this in Joseph’s story. In Genesis 39:7–9, Potiphar’s wife tried to entice Joseph into sin. Joseph recognized what was happening, refused her advances, and ultimately said, “How then could I do such a wicked thing and sin against God?”

Joseph chose obedience because he kept his focus on God.

When temptation comes, we have a choice to make too.

The temptation may be real. The battle may be fierce. But God is still faithful. His grace is still present. And the way out is still there.

Temptation may be inevitable. Defeat doesn’t have to be.
