KidREACH at Maple Valley Church has just wrapped up another year of reaching out and sharing God’s love through the vehicle of academic mentoring. On Thursday afternoons, KidREACH mentors gathered with elementary school kids from our neighborhood who face academic or economic challenges. They made a sustained commitment to 13 children — to believe in them, listen to them, and encourage them to reach for more. This year, 18 amazing volunteer mentors and substitute mentors delivered 265 one to one sessions focused on practicing skills, building confidence, and having fun! Every session was a seed planted, a moment invested, a reminder to each child that they matter and that MVC is cheering them on!

Last week at church we were able to learn more about Gateway Medical Alliance! Greg Plett shared a slideshow and information about how GMA improves the lives of the poor and disadvantaged around the world by sharing healthcare resources. From their Kent warehouse, they have sent a total of 190 containers full of medical supplies and equipment to more than 15 countries including Morocco, Cambodia, Ghana, Guinea, Liberia, Madagascar, the Marshall Islands, Nigeria, Senegal and Sierra Leone. What a privilege it is to support them in this effort. Get ready to kick off summer with an unforgettable day at Wild Waves on Wednesday, July 1st from 2–7 pm! We’ll meet at Maple Valley Church at 2 pm, ride together to the park for a day full of water slides, rides, and hanging out with friends, then head back to church for dinner before pick-up at 7 pm. Incoming 6th graders are welcome, so invite your friends and join us! Don’t forget to bring a bathing suit, towel, and any extra spending money you’d like for snacks or souvenirs. The cost to attend is $35, but don't let that stop you; scholarships are available!
