"Now They Are Gone" is a hymn-prayer for immigrants whose lives are being shattered.

Now They Are Gone
O WALY WALY ("Though I May Speak")

Now they are gone! Where did they go?
O God, they're yours; you love them so!
They built a life and friendships here;
When hate burst in, they disappeared.

Are they in there? Behind those walls
where power breaks and justice falls?
Are ones who dreamed of being free
now shackled there, where we can't see?

When children cry for parents lost,
do we accept the awful cost?
They're traumatized; it is a sin!
You said God loves and values them.

Will we look back and realize:
When Christ was here, we turned our eyes?
We saw great harm, let values go,
and simply claimed, "We did not know."

And if our jobs hurt and deceive,
remind us, God, that we can leave.
God, make us brave to say, "Enough!"
to turn from hate, to turn toward love.
