The “unclean” who repent are cleaner than the “holy” who resist. Why? Because repentance, not reputation, is what counts in the kingdom. The “worst” people in society were entering ahead of the religious leaders because they were transformed by grace. The tax collectors and prostitutes aren't ahead because of sin, they're ahead because they turned from it. That’s why they lead the way into the kingdom. They recognized Christ's authority and power.

The temple was busy, and the fig tree was green. Both looked alive, yet neither was producing life. These scenes weren’t random; they were a living parable. The temple leaders and many religious people were just like that fig tree—leafy, impressive, yet spiritually dead. Both were meant to bear fruit for God, but neither did. Judgment came for both. The fig tree withered in a day; the temple would fall within a generation.

People were waiting for a warrior on a warhorse. Instead, they got a Savior on a donkey. Why? Because Jesus came in peace, not power. Matthew links this moment to the ancient prophecy in Zechariah 9:9, showing that Jesus came to bring reconciliation, not revolution. He wasn’t here to overthrow Rome, but to overcome sin. His throne would be a cross. His crown would be thorns. Sadly, the same crowd that praised Him with “Hosanna” would later cry out “Crucify Him.” Unfortunately, wrong expectations lead to frustration and rejection. However, the Gospels are clear: Jesus isn’t just the King we want, He’s the King we really need.
