Sometimes we can look at certain books of the Bible and not see the true value in them. Take Leviticus for instance. Many people will read the chapters and verses and think, "What does mold in your house and the way that it had to be purified by the priests have to do with anything I face?"
Well in Leviticus 14:49-53 it describes what takes place after the mold has been removed from a house, what the priests were to do. They first examine it, then, when they are certain that the house is free from mold, he takes two birds, cedar wood, scarlet yarn, and hyssop to cleanse the house. The Bible tells us that the priest took one bird and kills it, over a pot of fresh water. Then he sprinkles the water and blood over the house seven times, as well as the live bird, cedar wood, hyssop and scarlet yarn. Then he is to release the live bird into the open countryside, outside of the city. Scripture then states "In this way he will make atonement for the house, and it will be clean."
Every item mentioned in the purification of the home from the mold is a symbol of the redeeming power of Jesus Christ. We know that the dove is symbolic of the Holy Spirit. Cedar wood was what was used to build the temple that housed the presence of God. Hyssop was used at Passover to put the blood on the door posts and was also used to provide Jesus with the sour wine on the cross. The scarlet yarn was woven into fabric to create the heavy veil that separated the Holy of Holy's from the rest of the temple. It also is symbolic of the redeeming blood of Jesus.
Do you see that even in their laws, the nation of Israel were being given a picture of the power of what Jesus would do on that cross to redeem them of the sin (mold) in their lives. From the very beginning God was pointing people to Jesus.
Dig into the word. Allow the Holy Spirit to lead you and guide you into the rich depths that can be found within the pages. Only God can weave Himself so beautifully throughout His entire story and it is there for us to discover more and more of daily if we will only seek Him.
"Seek the Lord while He may be found; call to Him while He is near." Isaiah 55:6
