We often ask God to make our lives easier.

But what if the better prayer is:

“Jesus, help me follow you—even when it isn't easy.”

Following Jesus isn't ultimately about finding the most comfortable path. It's about finding life.

Matthew 7:13–14

What would Jesus do?

It's an old question, but it's still a powerful one.

When you're facing a decision, ask:

Am I loving God?
Am I loving people?
Am I just making myself comfortable?
Is God getting the glory?

Jesus calls us to a narrow road. It may cost us something. But on the other side of hard things, we may discover the life we've been looking for.

Some of the hardest things Jesus asks us to do are deeply uncomfortable.

Forgive people who don't deserve it.
Choose humility when you're succeeding.
Do what Christ calls you to do even when nobody will ever know you did it.

But Jesus doesn't leave us there.

“Seek first his kingdom and his righteousness…”

Following Jesus may not always make life more comfortable. But it gives us a different way to live.

Comfort isn't always the goal.

Sometimes the faithful choice is the harder choice—the one that requires humility, sacrifice, forgiveness, courage, or putting someone else's needs ahead of our own.

A simple question from Sunday's message can help us examine our decisions:

“Am I loving God and loving other people with this, or am I just making myself comfy?”

What would change if we started asking that question more often?

How do you cope with discomfort?

Do you distract yourself? Work more? Scroll? Clean the pantry? Put on your comfiest clothes and try not to think about it?

We live in a culture that has made comfort a priority. But following Jesus can sometimes lead us directly into uncomfortable places.

The question isn’t simply, “How can I become more comfortable?”

It’s: “What is Jesus asking me to do?”

Maybe you know you need to forgive someone.

Maybe you want to forgive.

Maybe you've even said, "I forgive you."

But the hurt keeps coming back.

Today, you don't have to pretend forgiveness is easy.

You can simply pray:

"Jesus, help me."

And then:

"I forgive. Help me forgive."

God, give us the grace to release our anger, let go of revenge, and extend the forgiveness you have first given to us.

Amen.

Jesus calls us to unlimited forgiveness.

But forgiveness is not the same as reconciliation.

Forgiving someone doesn't mean you have to pretend nothing happened.

It doesn't necessarily mean restoring the relationship to what it was.

And it doesn't mean you can't have boundaries.

Forgiveness means releasing your anger and your desire for revenge and placing the situation in God's hands.

Sometimes forgiveness is the first step toward reconciliation.

Sometimes forgiveness happens while a boundary remains.

Either way, Jesus calls us to forgive.
