Today, May 31st, is Saga Dawa Duchen, when we commemorate three important events in the life of Shakyamuni Buddha—his birth in Lumbini, his enlightenment in Bodhgaya, and Parinirvana at Kushinigar. These events all took place, in different years, in the fourth month of the Tibetan lunar calendar on this auspicious full moon day. As one of the most sacred days of the year, one’s karmic effects are said to be multiplied 1,000,000’s of times so meritorious actions are especially encouraged.
