A Message of Condolence and Prayer for the Martyrs of Karak, Jordan
“Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.” — Matthew 5:4
With hearts filled with sorrow, yet steadfast in our faith in the Resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ, we, the faithful of St. James of Sarug Syriac Orthodox Church in California, together with our pastor, the Very Rev. Fr. John George Kouki, extend our heartfelt condolences to the families of the martyrs of the tragic terrorist attack on a church in Karak, Jordan, to our sister Church, and to the beloved people of Jordan.
Words cannot express the pain of such a loss. We stand beside the grieving families in prayer and love, sharing their tears and holding firmly to our Savior’s promise:
“I am the resurrection and the life. Those who believe in me, even though they die, will live.” — John 11:25
We condemn this cruel attack on innocent lives and the sanctity of God’s house. We pray that hatred will never divide neighbors and that Jordan will remain a land of peace, safety, and fellowship.
Let us pray:
O Lord Jesus Christ, Resurrection of the departed and Comforter of the sorrowful, receive the souls of these innocent martyrs into Your boundless mercy. Forgive their sins and grant them eternal rest among Your righteous ones and saints, in Your dwelling places of light and peace.
Draw near, O Lord, to their grieving families. Strengthen the fathers and mothers, comfort the husbands and wives, and embrace the children, siblings, and all whose hearts are broken. Sustain them through their sorrow, surround them with loving care, and uphold them in the hope of the Resurrection and eternal life.
Stretch forth Your healing hand upon the wounded. Bless the doctors, nurses, and all who care for them. Protect the people of Jordan from violence and evil, and fill every heart with Your peace, for You have promised:
“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you.” — John 14:27
Grant eternal rest to the martyrs, healing to the wounded, and comfort and strength to their families and loved ones. Amen.
