We all know the feeling: we get what we wanted, only to find ourselves wanting something more. Ecclesiastes is an ancient book that puts words to this deeply human experience, the sense that no amount of success, experience, knowledge, or achievement can ultimately satisfy us. Together, we’ll explore why life can feel so empty even when it’s full, and whether we were made for something more.

During our Ecclesiastes teaching series, we will have multiple ways you can share and invite people to church.

First, we’ve made some cards to help you out! The first card has the sermon series calendar with the list of topics. You can look at what we’re going to talk about each week and consider who in particular to invite that Sunday. Stick it on your fridge and keep it in your mind.

We’ll also have weekly invite cards at church every Sunday for you to give away. Take one. Take several! And use them to invite someone to church who needs to hear about Jesus.

Secondly, on social media mid-week, we will post the weekly topic + invite so you can share the post and invite people online as well.

The questions of Ecclesiastes are the questions people in Los Angeles are asking today. People are spiritually open and curious, yet increasingly disillusioned by the promises of our culture. So let's invite our non-Christian friends, neighbors, coworkers, or family members to church as we explore God's answers to the main questions of life. Our gatherings will be the same as always, but we want to be particularly welcoming to and hospitable toward unbelievers.

Next week starts our new sermon series through the book of Ecclesiastes.

We’re all searching for something this world can’t give us. We look for satisfaction in pleasure, purpose in work, identity in our desires, security in money, and hope in politics. But none of it can bear the weight of our deepest longings. God has placed eternity in our hearts, yet we keep searching for life “under the sun.” We look within for answers when we were made to look up and find abundant life in God.

Ecclesiastes speaks directly to this search. With brutal honesty, it exposes the emptiness of life apart from God and the failure of all our favorite saviors. But Ecclesiastes is not ultimately a book of despair. It leads us through our disillusionment and into a surprising, grounded joy that comes from receiving life as a gift from God. Life under the sun is striving after the wind, but life with God is filled with meaning, purpose, and hope.

Humility stands out due to its rarity.

With endless information available, we can all be "experts" in any topic, but really, we may simply be experts at finding surface-level answers.

As Christians, we need to study Scripture and spend time in the Word, but don't need to hold the pressure of knowing everything or having all the answers.

If someone asks you a question about Christianity that you don't know the answer to, it's okay to tell them that you don't know, but you'll find out! Come ask at church, ask a pastor, and then go back to the person. This creates even more opportunities to talk about Christ, and shows that you're willing to learn alongside those who are seeking.

Witness with humility. It will draw others in.

Serve LA has officially moved and is back open at their new temporary location:
First Southern Baptist
Church of Hollywood
1528 N Wilton Pl

They will continue serving meals at 10AM and 5PM.

If you are a regular volunteer at Serve LA or want to be, send them a dm for any information on their new place. We can’t wait for construction to be complete so they can enjoy their updated building back on Fountain and Edgemont, but we are so grateful to First Southern Baptist Church of Hollywood for hosting them in the interim.

We treasure being able to celebrate our servant leaders! With food trucks, sweet treats, crafts, games, and blankets in the shade (as promised)—what a fun time with you all!

Jesus changes everything...and he uses you! It is through your care and volunteered time that people are able to come to church, find a seat, hear the Word, and be welcomed in community.

Join us at our 10AM gathering today at Helen Bernstein High School as Pastor Jonathan closes our month in the Psalms with a teaching on Psalm 50.

Plus, we get to enjoy Family Sunday again! Kids ages 4+ will be in the main gathering with us. What a privilege to worship and learn with all of God's family, no matter the age! Parents, you can grab an activity pack for your children before entering the auditorium.

And remember: our 5PM gathering is now paused as we renovate our buildings in East Hollywood. See you at 10!
