Parish LB is a small church community who gathers weekly, seeking to live life together in the goodness of God, among a broken world. We are a humble gathering, without any bells or whistles. We are a people who hunger and thirst for the Bread and Fount of Life, and wrestle with God by not being afraid to live the questions. We’re faithful doubters who seek to resist the seduction of empire. Often by listening to the children of the church. They are always pointing the way to Christ, to Truth, to Love, to Beauty.

If you find yourself longing for a people and place to bring your fears, your doubts, your weary soul, and share in hope and joy, we invite you to come. Bring your questions. Your wounds. Your curiosity. Yourself. We would love to meet you and welcome you just as you are!

Join us Saturday, June 21st for an acoustic evening of songs & stories that will leave you laughing, crying & filled with hope!

Andy Squyres is a singer-songwriter born and raised in the mountains of Northern California but after moving east in the late 1990’s, he’s spent the last few decades carving songs out of the foothills of his North Carolina home. Heavily influenced by the poetics of Leonard Cohen, Squyres leans heavily into the lyrical tradition of artists like Bob Dylan, The National, and John Mark McMillan, having a passion for words that are equally worshipful and honest.

His live show is an aching display, a joyful protest, at once humorous and tragic, weaving together songs and tales of heartbreak and hope, making audiences laugh and sometimes cry while feeling the wonder of the sorrows and joys of life.

No cost.

“If you could be any tree, what tree would you want to be and why?”

The kids thoughtfully answered this question and then drew and watercolored their trees at Book Club today.

“I’d want to be a spruce Christmas tree because they are so fluffy and live in the snow and can make a good home for some squirrels and birds.”

“I’d want to be a mangrove tree because they live in the water and I love the water.”

“I’d want to be a redwood because they are tall and strong like me.”

What about you? What tree would you be?? We’d love to hear in the comments so we can share with our book club next week!

A simple act really, kneeling down before a child. But this basic movement has so much depth and meaning, it creates quite an impact.

Children spend the majority of the first 10+ years of their lives looking up at the adults around them. Whether intended or not, adults are presented and understood as “bigger than” / “greater than” / “more _____ than.” The hierarchy is set, and grown-ups obtain ultimate authority over children as the default setting.

Kneeling down below a child’s gaze breaks this power dynamic. It communicates to the child that their presence is seen and important, and postures oneself to listen and receive at the child’s level.

At Parish LB, children are not just present during the majority of our Sunday gatherings, they are active participants. They call us to worship in song, invite us to holy wonder and awe of God through story, and serve the Eucharist every week. We believe their active presence is *vital* to the life of the church and it is often through them, we see Christ.

We’ve never discussed this sacred act of kneeling before children. That is why I was amazed to see Jessie get low before my son to serve and receive the Lord’s supper. Just look at them… what do you see?

I see a child of God who knows he belongs… not just to God and the church, but to Jessie, too.
