“Soft hands…soft hands”

That’s what JR would tell me when I had the yoke of his small Cessna plane. His point was simple, you can’t outmaneuver the wind. Just stay the course, but gently. Don’t hold tight and magnify every little microburst of wind that tugs at the plane. Simple enough, but honestly not that simple. Control…we are creatures of control. Grasp harder, push back, resist every little bump in the road (or air) that comes your way. And, in the meantime, frustration and not a little queasiness build.

The Old Testament word for God’s Spirit is ruach…wind. The wind that parted the Red Sea. The wind that guided the cloud in the wilderness. The wind Jesus stilled on the Sea of Galilee and the wind of Pentecost. And the wind that blows through our heart, mind, and soul if we dare crack a window.

The old adage instructs, “Don’t fight the wind,” but there I sit white knuckled from grasping for control. Soft hands.

If moving into my third age of life has taught me anything, it is the wisdom of JR, and not just for flying. Proclaiming God as Creator gives deep insight into creation, and our own lives. Some songwriter opined, “There’s a strange wind blowing.” And God whispers…soft hands. It might just be the Spirit of God!

Ladies, join us this Saturday to shop for treasures and trinkets! We will be taking the church bus, or you can drive separately!

This will be a FUN Outing!

9 AM- Leave the church
10 AM- Arrive at Bama Flea Mall and Antique Center in Leeds
12:30 PM- Lunch- Rusty’s
1:30 PM- Irondale Pickers
3:30 PM- Head back to LFBC
