Medhanealem ("Savior of the World") Eritrean Orthodox Church was founded in the late 1990s, shortly after the outbreak of war between Ethiopia and Eritrea in 1998. Many Eritrean families had been attending the local Ethiopian Orthodox Church but were not happy with the church's position on the war. These tensions led a group of Eritrean faithful to send a letter to the synod of bishops in Eritrea, petitioning to be sent a priest so that they might form their own church. (The Eritrean Church, formerly a part of the Ethiopian Church, had received ecclesiastical independence in 1993.) The Eritrean Church responded by sending Father G. Michael Yohannes to the United States in 1999; he was the first priest to be sent specifically to found an Eritrean church in America. The Eritrean community began meeting at St. Mark Lutheran Church in Tucker, Georgia. In December 2002 they moved to their present building (formerly a Protestant church) in Lithonia. Worshippers entering Medhanealem Eritrean Orthodox Church remove their shoes as a sign of reverence, either leaving them in the small narthex at the entrance or carrying them inside and placing them at their feet. Men stand on the left. A few wear suits, while others dress more casually. Those who will be taking communion wear a traditional white shawl, draped crosswise over their regular clothes. Women stand on the right, wearing modest dresses and white prayer shawls, which they use to cover their heads. At the beginning of the morning prayers that precede the Divine Liturgy, relatively few worshippers are present, but by the middle of liturgy the pews are quite full. In the back of each pew there are bibles in the native Eritrean language of Tigrinya, as well as plastic binders containing songs in Tigrinya and in Ge'ez, the liturgical language of the Eritrean Orthodox Church. There is no need to refer to a service book, thanks to a digital projector that displays the text of the service on a large screen in the right front of the church. The text is arranged in three columns: Ge'ez, Tigrinya, and English. Most of the service is in Tigrinya, while parts are in Ge'ez; the English translation is for the benefit of the younger generation. During the liturgy proper, the only instrument used is a single handbell, which is rung rhythmically at important points in the service, such as the administering of Holy Communion. People stand for most of the service, though prostration or kneeling are called for at the more solemn moments. After the Divine Liturgy, the people are seated, and the choir leads the church in a number of hymns in Ge'ez and Tigrinya. These are less restrained than the chants used for the liturgy: some of them are sung to the rhythm of drumming and clapping, and women occasionally lift their voices in ululation at the rests between verses. A synthesizer hidden in a corner of the church provides a simple melodic accompaniment to this part of the service. The Sunday service concludes with a sermon in Tigrinya. Date Center Founded

“ናሁ ሠናይ ወናሁ አዳም ሶበ ይሄልው አኀው ኅቡረ” (መዝ 132፤1)!
"እንሆ፣ ኣሕዋት ብሓደ ሓቢሮም ኪነብሩስ፣ ክንደይ ሰናይን ክንደይ ጥዑምን እዩ።” (መዝሙር 133:1)

እዚ ጥቕሲ፡ ነቲ ብፍቕርን ብሓባራዊ መለኮታዊ ዕላማን ዝተጠርነፈ ማሕበረሰብ ዘለዎ ሓጎስ፡ መንፈሳዊ ሓይልን ዓሚቝ ስኒትን ብግቡእ ይገልጾ።
ማሕበር ሥላሴ፡ ሓንቲ ክፋል ናይቲ ማሕበራት ደብረ ግእዛን መድኃኔዓለም ኮይኑ፡ ንጡፍ ክርስትያናዊ ህይወት ንምህናጽ ዝተመደበ ኣገባብ እዩ። ነቲ ቅዱስ ትውፊት ቀዳሞት ክርስትያናት ብሓንሳእ ዝነብርሉን ዘምልኹሉን ዝነበሩ መገዲ ብምስዓብ፡ ኣብ ሓድሕዳዊ ደገፍን ስኒትን እተሃንጸ ማሕበረ ሰብ ንምፍጣር ዝዓለመ እዩ። ከም ኣብ ስደት ዝነብር ማሕበረ ሰብ (ዳያስፖራ) መጠን እኳ እንተኾነ፡ እቲ ሃብታም ባህልና፡ ክብርታትናን እምነትናን ብብሩህ ምድማቕ ዘቐጽል መደብ እዩ፡ እዚ ድማ ንርሕቀትን ቦታ ሰጊሩ ብሓንሳእ የተኣሳስረና።
እቲ ናይ ሓድነት ጉዕዞ እዚ ናይ ሓቂ መንፈስ፡ ኣብቲ ኣብ ቀረባ ግዜ ናብ ፍሎሪዳ ዝገበርናዮ መንፈሳዊ ጉዕዞ ብግልጺ ተራእዩ እዩ። ከምዚ እዞም ምስዚ ጽሑፍ ዘለዉ ስእልታት ብጽቡቕ ዘርእይዎ፡ ቅዱስ ዳዊት ዘማሪ ስኒት ኣብ ውሽጢ ኣሕዋት ህያው ኮይኑ ይርከብ። ኣብ ምሉእ እቲ ጉዕዞ፡ ኣባላት እታ ማሕበር ዓሚቝ ስምዒት ናይ ሕውነታዊ ፍቕሪ ኣስተማቒሮም፡ ብሓጎስ ሕብረት፡ ኣስተንትኖን ርክብን ኣሕሊፎም። ከምኡ ብምግባሮም ድማ፡ ነቲ "ንሓድሕድኩም ፍቕሪ እንተ አላትኩም፡ በዚ ዅሉ ደቀ መዛሙርተይ ምዃንኩም ኪፈልጥ እዩ" ዚብል ዘይሃስስ ትምህርቲ ጐይታና ብሓቂ ብግብሪ ኣርእዮም እዮም (ዮሓንስ 13:35)።
ነዚ መንፈሳዊ ፍቕሪ ዘልዕል ህንጸት ዝህብ ጉዕዞ ንምድላው ግዜኦምን ጉልበቶምን ንዘወፈዩ ሰባት ዝዓሞቝ ምስጋናና ነቕርብ። ኣምላኽ ነቶም ኣዳለውቲ፡ ንኣባላት እታ ማሕበር፡ ከምኡውን ንብምሉኡ ጉባኤና ብዕዙዝ መለኮታዊ ፍቕሩ ኣብዚሑ ይባርኽ። ስብሓት ለእግዚኣብሔር!

We strive to foster a community built on mutual support and harmony, closely reflecting how early Christians lived and worshipped together. Even as a diaspora community, our rich traditions, values, and faith continue to shine brightly, binding us together across distances and generations.

The true spirit of this unity was on full display during our recent retreat to Florida. As these accompanying pictures beautifully illustrate, the harmony praised by David the Psalmist is alive and well within our group. Throughout the trip, the members of the Mahber experienced a profound sense of brotherly love, sharing in moments of joyful fellowship, reflection, and connection. In doing so, they truly embodied our Lord’s timeless teaching: "By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another" (John 13:35).

በስመ አብ ወወልድ ወመንፈስ ቅዱስ አሐዱ አምላክ አሜን።

ጾም ሓዋርያት (ወይ ድማ ጾመ ሰኔ) ኣብ ቤተ ክርስቲያን ካብ ዝርከቡ ዓበይቲ ኣጽዋማት(7)ሓደ ኮይኑ፡ ዝጸወመሉ ምኽንያትን ዝጀመረሉ እዋንን ከምዚ ዝስዕብ እዩ፤

ንምንታይ ጾም ሓዋርያት ንጸውም?
•ኣሰር ሓዋርያት ንምስዓብ፡ ቅዱሳን ሓዋርያት ኣብ መዓልቲ በዓለ ጰራቅሊጦስ (መንፈስ ቅዱስ ዝወረደላ መዓልቲ) መንፈስ ቅዱስ ምስ ተቐበሉ፡ ወንጌል ንምስባኽ ናብ ኩሉ ኵርናዓት ዓለም ቅድሚ ምውጻኦም፡ ሓይልን ጸጋን ካብ ኣምላኽ ንምርካብ ጾይሞምን ጸልዮምን እዮም። ቤተ ክርስቲያንን ምእመናንን ድማ ነቲ ናይ ሓዋርያት ቅዱስ ኣሰርን ኣብነትን ንምስዓብ ነዚ ጾም ይጸውሙ።

•በረኸት ንምርካብ፡ ልክዕ ከምቲ ሓዋርያት ብጾምን ጸሎትን ተዳልዮም ዓቢ መንፈሳዊ ግብሪ ዝፈጸሙ፡ ምእመናን እውን ኣብ ህይወቶም መንፈሳዊ ሓይልን፡ ሰላምን በረኸትን ንምርካብ ይጸውሙ።

መዓስ ተጀሚሩ?
•ታሪኻዊ መጀመሪኡ፡ እዚ ጾም ባዕሎም ቅዱሳን ሓዋርያት ኣብ ቀዳማይ ዘመን ክርስትና እዩ ተጀሚሩ። ሓዋርያት መንፈስ ቅዱስ ምስ ተቐበሉ ብኡንብኡ ዝጀመርዎ ጾም እዩ።

"ኢየሱስ ከኣ በሎም፡ ነዕሩኽ መርዓዊኸ፡ መርዓዊ ምሳታቶም ኽሳዕ ዘሎ፡ ከመይ ኢሎም ኪጕህዩ ይዀነሎም፧ መርዓዊ ኻባታቶም ዚውሰደላ መዓልቲ ግና ክትመጽእ እያ፡ ሽዑ ኸኣ ይጾሙ።"ማቴዎስ 9፡15

•ኣብ ስርዓት ኣዋርሕ፡ ጾም ሓዋርያት ኩሉ ግዜ በዓለ ጰራቅሊጦስ (ሰንበት) ምስ ሓለፈ፡ ብቀጥታ ኣብ ዝስዕብ መዓልቲ ሰኑይ ይጅምር።

•መወዳእታኡ፡ እዚ ጾም ዝውዳእ በዓል ቅዱስ ጴጥሮስን ቅዱስ ጳውሎስን (ኣብ ግእዝ 5 ሓምለ) (July 12) ክኽበር ከሎ እዩ።
ብምኽንያት እቲ በዓለ ትንሳኤ ዓመት ዓመት ዝዋወቕ (ዝቀያየር) ዕለታት፡ ጾም ሓዋርያት ዝጅምረሉ ዕለት እውን ይፈላለ እዩ። በዚ ምኽንያት ድማ ንውሓት ናይዚ ጾም ካብ 15 ክሳብ 49 መዓልታት ክበጽሕ ይኽእል።

ኣብ ሓዋርያቱ ዝነበረ መንፈስ ኣባና ይሕደር። እግዚአብሔር ኣምላኽ ጾምና ተቐቢሉ በረኸቱ ይሃበና።

"እምብኣርሲ ሕጂውን ብጾምን ብብኽያትን ብቝዝማን ብምሉእ ልብኹም ናባይ ተመለሱ፣ ይብል እግዚኣብሔር።" ዮኤል 2፥12

The Apostles' Fast is one of the major fasts (7) in the Church.

Why do we fast the fast of the apostles?

• After receiving the Holy Spirit on the day of Pentecost, the apostles fasted and prayed for strength and grace from God before going out to preach the gospel. The Church and the faithful observe this fast to follow in the holy footsteps and example of the Apostles.
•Just as the apostles prepared themselves by fasting and prayer and performed great spiritual works, believers fast to receive spiritual strength, peace, and blessings in their lives.
When did it start?
•Historical origins: This fast was started by the Holy Apostles themselves in the first century of Christianity. It was a fast that the apostles began immediately after receiving the Holy Spirit.

"And Jesus said unto them, Can the children of the bride chamber mourn, as long as the bridegroom is with them? But the days will come, when the bridegroom shall be taken away from them, and then shall they fast in those days." Matthew 9:15

•In the lunar system, the Apostles' Fast always begins on the Monday immediately following Pentecost.

•Finally, this fast ends with the feast of St. Peter and St. Paul (July 12). Because of the dates that change (change) each year because of the Easter, the date on which the Apostles' Fast begins also varies. As a result, the length of this fast can range from 15 to 49 days.

May the Spirit that was in His apostles dwell in us. May God accept our fast and bless us.

በዓል ሓምሳ (በዓል መንፈስ ቅዱስ ወይ በዓለ ጰራቅሊጦስ) ኣብ ክርስትናን ቤተ ክርስቲያን ኣዝዩ ዕሙቕ ዝበለ መንፈሳዊ ትርጉም ኣለዎ። ማለት፡
1. ልደት ቤተ ክርስቲያን (Birth of the Church) ቅዱሳን ኣቦታት ሊቃውንትን ንበዓል ሓምሳ "ልደት ቤተ ክርስቲያን" ኢሎም ይጽውዕዎ። መንፈስ ቅዱስ ኣብ ልዕሊ ሓዋርያትን ሰዓብትን ምስ ወረደ፡ እታ ብሓደ መንፈስ እትምራሕን ቤተ ክርስቲያን ብወግዒ ቆይማን ኣገልግሎታ ጀሚራን።

2. ምፍጻም መብጽዓ ጐይታ (Fulfillment of the Promise) ጐይታና ኢየሱስ ክርስቶስ ቅድሚ ምዕራጉ "ኣነ ድማ ንኣቦ ክልምኖ እየ፡ ንሱ ኸኣ ንዘለዓለም ምሳኻትኩም ዚነብር ካልእ መጸናንዒ (ጰራቅሊጦስ) ኪህበኩም እዩ" (ዮሃንስ 14:16) ኢሉ ንዝኣተዎ መብጽዓ ዝተፈጸመሉ ዕለት እዩ። ኣቦታት እዚ ዕለት እዚ ኣምላኽ ንቓሉ እሙን ምዃኑ ዘርእየሉ ዓቢ መረጋገጺ ከም ዝኾነ ይምህሩና።

3. ሓይልን ትብዓትን ንሓዋርያት (Power and Boldness) ቅድሚ መንፈስ ቅዱስ ምውራዱ፡ ሓዋርያት ብፍርሃት ተዋሒጦም ማዕጾ ዓጽዮም ይጽልዩ ነይሮም። መንፈስ ቅዱስ ምስ ተቐበሉ ግና፡ ፍርሃቶም ናብ ትብዓት ተለዊጡ፡ ንሞት ከይፈርሁ ብግህዶ ቃል ኣምላኽ ኣብ መላእ ዓለም ክሰብኩ ጀሚሮም።

4. ትርጉም ልሳን ሓዊ (Meaning of Tongues of Fire) መንፈስ ቅዱስ ስለምንታይ "ብኣምሳል ዝተመቓቐለ ልሳን ሓዊ" (ግብሪ ሓዋርያት 2:3) ከም ዝወረደ ኣቦታት (ከም በዓል ቅዱስ ዮሓንስ ኣፈወርቅ) ክገልጹ ከለዉ፦
o ሓዊ ምዃኑ: ንሓጢኣት ዘንድድ (ዘንጽህ)፡ ንልቢ ብፍቕሪ ኣምላኽ ዘሙቕ፡ ከምኡ'ውን ብርሃን (ፍልጠት) ዝህብ ስለ ዝኾነ እዩ።
o ልሳን ምዃኑ: ሓዋርያት ንኹሉ ፍጥረት ብዝተፈላለየ ቋንቋ (ልሳን) ክሰብኩ ዝተዋህቦም ጸጋን ናይ ትምህርቲ ስልጣንን ዘመልክት እዩ።

5. ካብ ግምቢ ባቤል ናብ ሓድነት ጽዮን (Reversal of Babel) ኣብ ብሉይ ኪዳን (ዘፍጥረት 11) ኣብ ግምቢ ባቤል ቋንቋታት ሰባት ተደናጊሩ ፍልልይ ተፈጢሩ ነይሩ። ኣብ በዓል ሓምሳ ግና፡ እቲ ብመንፈስ ቅዱስ ዝተዋህበ ናይ ልሳን ጸጋ፡ ነቶም ዝተፈላለየ ቋንቋ ዝዛረቡ ህዝብታት ዓለም ብሓደ መንፈሳዊ ቃል ኣምላኽ ክሰምዑ ብምግባር ናብ ሓድነት ኣምጺእዎም። ሎሚ ድማ ነዛ ቅድስቲ ቤ/ክ ሓድነታ ክደልድል ንለምን።


“ነቲ መንፈስ ሓቂ፡ ዓለም ዘይትርእዮን ዘይትፈልጦን ስለ ዝዀነት፡ ክትቅበሎ ኣይኰነላን እዩ። ንስካትኩም ግና፡ ምሳኻትኩም ይሐድር ኣባኻትኩም፡ውን ኪነብር እዩ እሞ፡ ትፈልጥዎ ኢኹም።”ወ. ዮሐንስ 14:17
