How can men benefit from Soul Care? Why would they need it?
Studies show women are more likely to receive treatment for mental health issues or hardships that may come up but are not more likely than men to actually have symptoms of issues or struggles with mental health. The reality is men struggle with mental health and walk through hardship, and they keep that struggle to themselves. In the long run, it ends up hurting the people around them, themselves, and their relationship with God.
This happens because there is a stigma around getting help.
Men are “supposed” to be strong, tough, and control their emotions. We are trying to break that stigma, and help create space for men to get the help that they need. Asking for help can feel like a sign of weakness, but it takes courage to admit that you need someone other than yourself. And when you admit that, you are met by a Savior who is made strong in moments where you can't do it on your own. And he looks on you in those moments with compassion.
It’s not that you are weak, flawed, or different from others, but you do have your struggles, and sometimes you aren’t “good” or “okay”
It’s okay to not be okay.
It’s okay to admit that you are not okay.
It’s okay to reach out and ask for help.
