RODERICK BAIN CUSTER
October 5, 1942 - October 10, 2026
Roderick Bain Custer "Roddy", a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, passed away on Saturday, October 10, 2026, surrounded by family.
Born on October 5, 1942, in Roanoke, VA, his life was marked by hard work and deep commitment to family and friends.
After graduation from Escambia High School in 1962, he proudly served in the U.S. Army for three years. After his military service, he worked in the finance business, then Westinghouse before joining L&N Railroad. He spent the next 30 years “Car Knocking” before retiring from CSX Railroad in 2001. He spoke often of the friends made there and their adventures. Roddy was an avid woodworker. He used those skills to renovate and build projects at the churches he attended as well as his home and the homes of friends and family.
Roddy was a Christian and currently a member of Lillian Methodist Church. He was quick with a smile and a joke and made friends easily. He loved our Lord Jesus Christ and is now in his Holy Place.
Roddy is survived by his beloved wife Martha, son Bain (Cammy), daughter Marcy (Rich), grandchildren Chelby (Rusty), Tripp and Logan (Laura); his two great-grandchildren, McKinley and Levi; his sisters Wanda (Don), Annette and Kathleen (Dave); his brothers-in-law, Charles and Louis Connor; and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Fred & Elma Custer, and his in-laws, G.W. and Mary Connor.
To God Be the Glory for Roddy’s Eternal Life!
