UNDERSTANDING PRIDE
Proverbs 16:18–19 (NET 2nd ed.)—18) Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall. 19) It is better to be lowly in spirit with the afflicted than to share the spoils with the proud.
Proud people ARE those who pursue their own way using their own rationale without regard for others, but humble people OBEY GOD’S WORD with RESPECT for God and mankind. Pride, IF left UNCHECKED, ultimately leads to DESTRUCTION; the purpose of Scripture’s WARNINGS is to put the proud sinner back on a path that leads to honor and life.
