09/01/26 Morning Psalm and Prayer

Appointed Psalm: Psalm 17 (NRSVue)

Today’s reading: Psalm 17:6-12

6 I call upon you, for you will answer me, O God;
incline your ear to me; hear my words.
7 Wondrously show your steadfast love,
O savior of those who seek refuge
from their adversaries at your right hand.

8 Guard me as the apple of the eye;
hide me in the shadow of your wings,
9 from the wicked who despoil me,
my deadly enemies who surround me.
10 They close their hearts to pity;
with their mouths they speak arrogantly.
11 They flush me out; now they surround me;
they set their eyes to cast me to the ground.
12 They are like a lion eager to tear,
like a young lion lurking in ambush.

Prayer: Dear God, I come to you today with a heart full of faith and trust in your promises. I know that when I call on you, you will answer me. So, I ask you to turn your ear to me and hear my speech. I believe that you are always listening to me and that you will never leave me alone. Thank you for your unfailing love and for always being there for me. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

8/31/26 Morning Psalm and Prayer

Appointed Psalm: Psalm 17

Today's Reading: Psalm 17:1-5

1 Hear a just cause, O Lord; attend to my cry;
give ear to my prayer from lips free of deceit.
2 From you let my vindication come;
let your eyes see the right.
3 If you try my heart, if you visit me by night,
if you test me, you will find no wickedness in me;
my mouth does not transgress.
4 As for what others do, by the word of your lips
I have avoided the ways of the violent.
5 My steps have held fast to your paths;
my feet have not slipped.

Prayer: We give thanks to you, heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ your dear Son, that you have protected us through the night from all harm and danger. We ask that you would also protect us today from sin and all evil, so that our life and actions may please you. Into your hands we commend ourselves: our bodies, our souls, and all that is ours. Let your holy angels be with us, so that the wicked foe may have no power over us. Amen.

6 I wash my hands in innocence,
and go around your altar, O LORD,
7 singing aloud a song of thanksgiving, and telling all your wondrous deeds.
8 O LORD, I love the house in which you dwell, and the place where your glory abides.

Prayer: O Lord thy God, you abide with us in good times and bad. Let today be a good one, as we sing a song of thanks for all your wondrous deeds. Amen

Today’s reading: Psalm 26:4-5

4 I do not sit with the worthless,
nor do I consort with hypocrites;
5 I hate the company of evildoers,
and will not sit with the wicked.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, in the Psalms of old there is much to pray upon, but you came to do a new thing. You taught us to love our enemies. Give us strength and courage this day to turn from the wicked and evildoers of our time and put our trust in you alone. Amen
