"We don't seem to have much to talk about anymore. We used to talk about us. Now it's logistics and the kids. I have no major complaints, but the excitement is gone."

Somebody wrote that. Shayne has never forgotten it.

Nobody in it cheated. Nobody yelled. There's no problem to point at, which is exactly why it's so hard to talk about.

If that's your house, he wrote something for you. It's short, it's practical, and it isn't about trying harder.

A lot of us keep trying to change the outcome. Be more patient. Worry less. Stop snapping. Be better with money. Show up differently in our relationships.

But wanting a different outcome isn’t the same as training for one.

Real change usually starts smaller than we think. A new rhythm. A different choice. A decision made before the moment gets hard.

You may not be able to control the outcome today. But you can change the input.

You left church. And you're not looking for somebody to talk you back in. Good. I'm not going to try.

But here's something you might not expect from a guy who still believes. I've listened to a lot of people tell me why they walked away. And most of the time, by the end of the story, I'm thinking: I would have left too. Because the god they're describing is one I don't believe in either.

Before RockPointe had a building, we had a cafeteria.

Leander Middle School let a brand-new church set up chairs on Sunday mornings, pack it all up, and come back the next week. That's where we started. A lot of you were there.

We never really left. Over the years it's been teacher breakfasts, backpacks, and a Christmas when the school used a gift from us to feed two dozen families.

This fall, we're back on campus on purpose. Showing up for the people who show up for Leander's kids every single day: teachers, coaches, front-office staff, the ones nobody thanks enough.

This is where our church started. We're going to keep acting like it.

"My dad and I don't really talk anymore."

Not because of anything he did. Because of how he votes.

Shayne has heard some version of that more times than he can count in the last few years. Sisters down to birthday texts. Families where everybody's polite and nobody's honest.

Up the road in Georgetown there's a place called The Key2Free.

Since 2013 they've been walking with women who survived s*x trafficking and exploitation. A safe home. A path back to work, to school, to a life that's hers again. They do the hard, slow, patient work that most of us never see.

This fall, RockPointe is showing up alongside them. Cooking dinner. Staying for the movie. Working a shift at their thrift boutique, Eden's Corner. Mowing a lawn.

None of it is dramatic. That's the point. Healing happens in ordinary hours, with people who keep coming back.

It’s hard to heal what you’re still hiding.

A lot of us get really good at saying, “I’m fine.” We keep moving, keep smiling, keep showing up — while avoiding the parts of our story we’d rather not look at.

But honesty isn’t about shaming yourself. It’s about finally telling the truth about where you are so you can stop pretending you’re somewhere else.

You don’t have to tell everyone everything.
But healing usually starts when the real you stops hiding.

There's a food pantry on Lacy Drive in Leander that most people drive past without noticing.

It's Hill Country Community Ministries. When a family in our area hits a wall, a lost job, a medical bill, a month that didn't add up, HCCM is where they go for groceries and help getting back on their feet. They've been doing it quietly for years, and they do it with dignity.

This fall, RockPointe is showing up there. Stocking shelves. Packing orders. Sorting donations at the thrift store on Leander Drive. Same faces, week after week, until the people there know our names.

Not because we're the heroes. HCCM is. We just get to carry boxes.
