Here is this week's Pastor's Moment and a brief ad for our Sunday morning!

For the vast majority of human history, most of us have been walkers. Sure, the wealthy have always had their chariots and carriages, but most of humanity's mode of transportation was their own two feet. Interesting enough, this included Jesus, who got to most of the places he went by walking.

As he walked, he invited others to walk with him and walking soon became one of the central metaphor for Christianity. Christianity was initially called "The Way" and early Christians termed themselves, "Followers." So it is, for two millenia, Christians have "walked" with Christ.

This is partly why walking itself has become a metaphor for doing something or producing something. Instruction manuals are divided into "steps" and self help books label their chapters thusly. In fact, the early founders of the AA movement divided their program into 12 steps.

It is a fitting metaphor. For a journey gets you from where you are to where you want to be and that usually happens one step at a time. Sometimes those steps are even backwards when you get lost and have to backtrack. But steps are how you get there. So this Autumn we are going to talk about 11 steps people have taken for spiritual growth. These are timeless truths and have helped millions find their way with Christ. So join us this Sunday and step with us as we continue to walk and talk with Jesus!

Here is our RoseFood update for Wednesday, September 2nd 2026:

For the first time in a long time, maybe ever, oranges is our standout item this week. We have boxes and boxes of the little mandarins and our sanctuary smells like it!

Other than that, our other pickings are fairly slim right now but we are due a large load tomorrow that usually has fresh produce and more. You'll have to come tomorrow to see what exactly it will be.

But we do have the usual deli items, bread and Chick Fil'A!

We start calling tickets @ 4pm

Weekly Reminders:
**We do a lottery system where we use tickets to randomize the order of the line but priority is given to those in the building by 4:05pm and we try to guarantee everyone gets something.
**We need an average of $3 per family per week to help pay for the gas and diesel for our food deliveries. You can contribute in one of two ways:
1) The "gas jar" in our entryway.
2) The Give button takes you to an online giving portal where you can select "Food Ministry" as one of the funds.

Here is this week's pastor's moment:

Last Sunday we talked about anger (orge in Greek) and its violent expression (thumoi in Greek). There seem to be no shortage of things to cause either orge or thumoi in our world. There are small things like Utah drivers and that annoying coworker. There are medium frustrations like the U-turns by Wal-Mart and your children acting like...children. There are national and global irritations like "the economy," the very mention of which seems to make anybody thumoi any more! If we wanted to, we could spend hours listing out all of our orge's and thumoi's. Somewhere in there friendships might even form as we say, "Oh, you too! That drives me absolutely thumoi!"

That wouldn't necessarily be bad. Venting frustration to like minded people can be therapeutic. However, at the end of the day, we are not called to merely express or vent our anger. We are called to be the hands and feet of Jesus at work in this infuriating world.

I know so many people who have decided they were tired of sitting around being angry and got up to do something. As they got to work volunteering, giving charitably, going to church, traveling for missions trips overseas and the like, their anger didn't dissipate but it at least found a healthy outlet instead of a thumoi!

That, at least, is who I try to be amid my constant frustrations and who I would invite you to be as well.

Our goal with the RoseFood giveaway is really just to collect and distribute food and nothing else. But that doesn't stop us from getting very bizarre donations, like the commercial/industrial sink you see pictured below! We have no idea who might want it, but if you do, first come, first serve.

Update: Turns out there were those out there who did want this and it was our joy to forward it to our community partners, Willow Pines!

Here is our RoseFood update for Wednesday, August 26th 2026:

You saw the picture below and you guessed it, we are back to a potato-fest! But this week it isn't the ones pictured but the small, delicious and delightful gourmet medley potatos! They are still perfect for mashing and stewing.

We also have quite a few strawberries, avocadoes, apples and figs. And our refrigerator and freezer are both full of deli type items, meals and quite a lot Chick Fil'A, more than we've had in recent weeks.

We also have the usual amounts of bread and pastries!
So it's fun for the whole family this week, or at least potatoes.

Here is our RoseFood update for Wednesday, August 19th 2026:

After last week's potato fest, we are sad to report we just have one bag of potatoes this week...and someone already claimed it!

Sadly, our fresh produce selection is down to minimal levels. We do have quite a few tomatoes and pineapples but very little else in the fresh department.

However, our canned produce selection is more than making up for it. For the first time in several months, we have a lot of canned and dried goods. We have canned and dried beans, pastas, cake mixes, stuffing and more. We also have canned tomatoes, green beans, corn as well as fruit of almost every variety.

We also have some Chick Fil'A, though it too is a little less than usual this week. And we have the usual bread and pastries.

Also remember that other weeks when we haven't had much fresh produce on Tuesday night, we've had a lot show up right before we start on Wednesday, so come tomorrow and see what else there might be!
