The Face You Already Are
With Azaan (aka Jim Lee)
We have spent years trying to become someone worthy of love, someone healed enough, evolved enough, awake enough to finally arrive.
This Sunday asks a harder question: what if that person is not ahead of you, but underneath the trying? What if the "new human" this series speaks of is not a future self you are building, but the one true face beneath every mask you've worn to be acceptable, safe, or spiritual? We will look directly at the difference between “Becoming and Recognizing”, and why most of our spiritual efforts turn out to be ways to postpone the second. This is not a talk about self-improvement. It is an invitation to stop auditioning for your own life.
Rev. Azaan is Minister Emeritus of Unity of Las Vegas, having served in ministry for over 30 years trying to explain the unexplainable, love the unlovable (including himself), and pinpoint the infinite.
In 1994, he graduated from the Unity School of Religious Studies and proudly declared, “I’m done with school!” Life smiled gently and said, “We’ll see about that.” Decades later, he now finds himself a recent graduate of the Awakening Together Ministerial Preparation Program—proof that Spirit has a great sense of humor and a long memory.
Rev. Azaan, former husband of Rev. Lisa Lee, now lives in Ajijic, Mexico, where the roosters wake him up early enough to meditate. He serves on the Advisory Board of Awakening Heart Sangha, a nondual intentional community devoted to living from the awareness of love, unity, and truth.
His teachings weave together metaphysical Christianity and Eastern nondual wisdom, all grounded in one simple truth: what we’re seeking is already here and always has been. You’ll often hear him remind others with a smile that awakening isn’t about getting somewhere, it’s about realizing you’ve never left.
