High school students throughout Southern Nevada returned to school this week, and for high school-age members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, that also means a return to seminary.

Seminary is a four-year religious education program for young people ages 14 to 18 offered by the Church around the world. Students study the scriptures and teachings of Jesus Christ, often gathering before the school day begins.

Tate Bunker, a student at Southwest Career and Technical Academy in Las Vegas, said seminary helps him begin his school day focused on Jesus Christ.

“Seminary helps me with my life and in school because it helps me start my day with the gospel and feeling the Savior’s love for me. It helps me be more Christlike during the school day when it may be hard sometimes. When school days are hard, having seminary also helps me reflect on what I have learned to keep me going through the day,” Bunker said.

President Dallin H. Oaks of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has personally invited youth to attend seminary.

“As you attend seminary, you will feel God’s love; find answers in your life; deepen your testimony of Jesus Christ; build emotional and spiritual strength; prepare for the temple, missions, education, and a future family; and gain courage to stand for truth,” President Oaks said.

Celebrations commemorating Pioneer Day will take place worldwide on July 24, 2026. Lone Mountain Stake President Bud Stoddard was interviewed near the Lone Mountain Temple construction site July 13 about the construction progress and the temple’s significance to members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

During the interview, President Stoddard explained the sacred purpose of temples and why they are central to the worship and beliefs of Church members. He also shared some special requests made of the construction workers working on the temple construction site.

Congregations throughout Southern Nevada gathered for watch parties to view the broadcast of The Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square’s Songs of Hope concert at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles, California.

The concert, benefiting women and children worldwide, featured special guest artists Donny Osmond, David Foster, Katharine McPhee, Daniel Emmet, Stephanie J. Block, Sebastian Arcelus, and The Bonner Family.

Through inspiring music and messages of faith, peace, and hope, the concert encouraged audiences to draw closer to Jesus Christ while supporting humanitarian efforts that bless women and children around the world.

Nevada’s 34th lieutenant governor, Mark Hutchison, and Adeline Ondiba were featured speakers during a community patriotic night hosted by the Paradise Stake of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on June 28.

Hutchison, a constitutional attorney and former Richmond Virginia Mission President, spoke about the blessings and responsibilities of freedom. Ondiba shared her inspiring journey from Africa to America.

Musical performances by Elleny Purviance and the Paradise Stake Choir added to the evening’s patriotic spirit. Following the program, attendees enjoyed a community meal featuring more than 400 hot dogs and apple pie.

“As your family grows and spreads out it is hard to get everyone together. Over Memorial Day weekend most of our family was able to be together. One of the things that we did as a family was to visit the Lone Mountain Temple Visitor Center. It was an incredible experience to learn more about the process of building the temple. The missionary couple there told us about miracles and tender mercies that have already happened during the building process. We were able to feel the Spirit while we were there.

Visiting the temple site and hearing these accounts helped the Lone Mountain temple come to life. We have been fasting and praying for a second temple in Las Vegas for many years. It is hard to believe that it is finally happening. The Lone Mountain temple will be closer to where we live. This will make it easier to attend the temple more often. We will be able to enjoy the blessings that come from serving in the temple more readily. Some of those blessings include finding peace in a tumultuous world, strengthening family connections, and drawing closer to our Savior. I love to see the temple. I can’t wait to go inside someday soon. It will truly be an answer to prayers when the Lone Mountain Temple is completed and dedicated.”
