Anglican prayer beads were developed in the Episcopal Church in the 1980s by the Rev. Lynn Bauman as a contemplative tool blending the Eastern Orthodox prayer rope with the Roman Catholic rosary. Unlike the latter, Anglican prayer beads carry no prescribed prayers and no Marian devotional framework. They are flexible, adaptable to any season.

This rosary was created by our own Director of Children, Youth, and Family Ministries, Lori Wilson loriwilsoninnerwork and prays five Mysteries of Migration from the life of Christ — moments when Jesus and his family were displaced, crossing borders, seeking safety. We will pray them in solidarity with those held in immigration detention and those facing deportation today.

We will pray the Anglican rosary together Monday, August 10 at 7:00 PM and on Sunday, August 23 after the 10:00 AM service. All are welcome.

St. John’s is preparing for our next Midnight Run, a program in which volunteers bring food, clothing, toiletries, blankets, and compassionate conversation to homeless persons on the streets of New York City.

Check out our Amazon Wishlist (https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/2NYFCKVY2AS3I) for toiletries, underwear, socks, as well as some additional items. Items will ship directly to St. John’s.

Families with small children are invited to help pack lunches and pack toiletries. We’ll also need volunteers to help prepare food and beverages for the run, sort and size our donated clothing, and load up the van. A volunteer or two to help clean up on Saturday morning would also be greatly appreciated.
