We were delighted to welcome Father George Baum for his first service at the Church of the Ascension! From worship and prayer to conversation and laughter afterward, it was a beautiful opportunity to gather as a parish family and celebrate this new beginning.

Father George, we are grateful you are here and look forward to growing in faith, serving our neighbors, and sharing God’s love together.

Celebrating Joyce Knapp: A Legacy of Faith, Beauty & Devotion

Church of the Ascension is blessed to celebrate Joyce Knapp, one of the most cherished and longtime members of our parish family.

Throughout the years, Joyce has given generously of her time and talents to Ascension. As a devoted member of the Altar Guild, she helped care for our sacred space and was responsible for many of the beautiful flower arrangements that graced our altar. Her creativity and attention to detail added beauty and dignity to countless worship services, holy days, and celebrations.

Joyce’s contribution to Ascension reaches far beyond her work with the Altar Guild. Her faithfulness, loyalty, friendship, and devotion have made her an important part of the life and history of our parish. She represents the generations of parishioners whose love, service, and commitment have helped make Church of the Ascension the special community it is today.

Recently, Joyce enjoyed a wonderful visit with our new priest, Father George Baum, and spent time with her dear friend Gregory Sent, Senior Warden of Church of the Ascension. These photographs capture a beautiful moment of friendship and fellowship — and a meaningful connection between Ascension’s rich history and an exciting new chapter in the life of our parish.

At 100 years young, Joyce continues to hold a very special place in the heart of Church of the Ascension.
Joyce, thank you for your many years of faith, friendship, service, and love for Ascension. The flowers you arranged brought beauty to our altar, but the devotion behind them has brought something even more lasting to our parish.

We are grateful for you, Joyce, and for the wonderful legacy you continue to share with all of us.

God Loves You. No Exceptions.

Many 👏hands came together on Saturday, August 29, to help prepare Ascension for our first service with Father George.

From the pulpit and altar to the pews and cushions, just about everything that could be lifted, turned over, shaken out, wiped down or polished received some attention. Every nook and cranny got a good cleaning, and by the end of the day, the unmistakable scent of Murphy’s Oil Soap seemed to fill the entire church!

We are incredibly grateful for everyone who gave their time and energy to help care for our beautiful worship space and prepare it for this exciting new chapter in the life of Ascension.

There is something wonderful about a congregation coming together to care for the place where we gather, worship and share our lives in faith. Thank you to everyone who rolled up their sleeves and helped make Ascension shine.

We’re ready to welcome Father George!

Our children and young adults took an active role in our 10:30 a.m. Sunday service!

Whenever a month includes a fifth Sunday, our youth take on prominent roles throughout the service, serving as ushers, readers, acolytes and in other important parts of our worship together.

We are grateful for their willingness to step forward, serve and take an active role in the life of the Church. Their participation is a wonderful reminder that every generation has a place, a voice and a role in our worshiping community.

We are proud of all of our young people who helped make this Fifth Sunday service so meaningful, and grateful to the families and adults who encourage and support them along the way.

As we conclude worship in the month of August, we give thanks for the gift of Morning Prayer and for the many ways members of our own congregation help lead us in worship.

Morning Prayer reminds us that even when clergy are not present, the Church continues to gather. We come together as a community to hear scripture, offer our prayers and praises, and worship God alongside one another.

We are especially grateful for our lay worship leaders, Ray Pratt, Aaron Beatty and Derek Lewallen, who have guided us through Morning Prayer, and for our lay preachers John Carlson and Christina Ferraro.

What a wonderful way to finish the month: worshiping together and hearing the voices, reflections and faith of those within our own Ascension family.

Thank you to each of them for saying “yes” to serving, leading and sharing their gifts with our congregation.

We are blessed by the many hands, voices and hearts that make our worship at Ascension possible.

Many hands make light work, but often it’s the hands working quietly behind the scenes that make all the difference. ❤️

Our Senior Warden, Greg Sent, is one of those people. Along with the many responsibilities he carries in service to Church of the Ascension, Greg also lends his time and talent to creating the beautiful flower arrangements for our worship services and special events.

This photo, taken the evening of our recent potluck dinner, captures one of those behind-the-scenes moments. While everyone was gathering, sharing a meal, and enjoying fellowship, Greg was once again making sure the details were taken care of.

Thank you, Greg, for the many ways you serve our parish, both the ones everyone sees and the many they don’t. We are grateful for the time, care, and heart you give to Ascension. 💐🙏
