Worship at LUMC

Worship may very well be the most important activities the church is about. Worship is a time to welcome God and to celebrate God's redemptive presence in our lives. Though worship is central to the Christian faith, we realize not everyone senses the presence of God in the same manner- music style, order of worship, or setting. LUMC strives to offer relevant worship experiences fo

r an ever-changing population. Read on and see if one of our three distinctively different worship gatherings in one that might help you celebrate God’s presence and grow closer to the God who calls you by name. Awakening - is a contemplative worship experience held each Sunday in Yoder Chapel at 8:30 a.m. This service offers Communion each week, and will be a time for reflection on scripture and spiritual renewal, a chance to slow down and focus on Christ, allowing God to speak to us in a time of quiet and contemplation. Leave the stresses of your week at the foot of the cross and go forth with thanksgiving for God’s grace in your life. No child or nursery care is available at this service time. The service is led by exciting musicians and singers. This service blends traditional and contemporary styles that is open to all. We use media and video clips to aid our themed message and worship. The Pastors work with a worship team to create memorable and experiential worship that speaks to Christians in the 21st century. As a congregation we stand together to resist racism. As baptized Christian disciples who ‘accept the freedom and power God gives us to resist evil, injustice, and oppression in whatever forms they present themselves,’ we reject the sin of white supremacy and white privilege; we denounce police brutality and racial profiling against people of color; and, we demand full protection of the civil rights for all of God’s children.

This Sunday at the Traditional service, Pastor Robin is preaching on the gospel lectionary text from Matthew. Matthew places these stories together for a reason. They are a portrait of who Jesus is and what the kin-dom of God looks like. Jesus calls the outsider, restores the shamed, and raises the dead. He quotes Hosea: “I desire mercy, not sacrifice.”
In other words:
*If your religion keeps you from loving people, it’s not the heart of God.*
*If your holiness requires distance, it’s not holiness at all.*
*If your faith draws lines that Jesus himself crosses, you’re following the wrong map.*
Jesus is not impressed by purity that avoids people. He is moved by mercy that embraces them.

Don’t forget to pause and pray at 10am today. Set an alarm on your phone. How is the Spirit moving in your life?

The Spirit that moved upon Peter and the disciples in Acts 2, and who “strangely warmed” John Wesley’s heart on Aldersgate Street on May 24, 1738, is in our midst today. During Pastor Robin's message today, we all prayed together several times, “Spirit of the Living God, set our hearts on fire!” She also challenged the church to “Pause and Pray” every day at 10:00 am. Pray for one another, our church’s ministries, and our leaders that the Spirit of the Living God will surely set our hearts on fire. We can’t wait to see what new thing God will do among us.
