We Need A Rending of the Heavens
Isaiah 63:15-19; 64:1-5

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗱 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗦𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗮𝘆'𝘀 𝗠𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗮𝗴𝗲: 𝙒𝙚 𝙉𝙚𝙚𝙙 𝘼 𝙍𝙚𝙣𝙙𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙤𝙛 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙃𝙚𝙖𝙫𝙚𝙣𝙨 Isaiah 63:15-19; 64:1-5.

The tendency of any fire is to go out. This is why the Apostle Paul wrote to Timothy and told him to 𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘳 𝘶𝘱 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘨𝘪𝘧𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘪𝘴 𝘪𝘯 𝘺𝘰𝘶, 𝘧𝘢𝘯 𝘪𝘯 𝘵𝘰 𝘧𝘭𝘢𝘮𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘨𝘪𝘧𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘪𝘴 𝘪𝘯 𝘺𝘰𝘶, 𝘬𝘪𝘯𝘥𝘭𝘦 𝘢𝘯𝘦𝘸 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘨𝘪𝘧𝘵 𝘰𝘧 𝘎𝘰𝘥.

As believers, we must diligently and regularly bow before God and allow the Spirit to refill us. Yes, He initially fills us, but we must ever allow him to continually refill us.

Isaiah recognized this need in the life of Israel. He saw God's people had forsaken God, and were worshipping the idols of the nations around them. In desperation, he prays, 𝘖𝘩, 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘠𝘰𝘶 𝘸𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥 𝘳𝘦𝘯𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘩𝘦𝘢𝘷𝘦𝘯𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘦 𝘥𝘰𝘸𝘯, 𝘛𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘮𝘰𝘶𝘯𝘵𝘢𝘪𝘯𝘴 𝘮𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵 𝘲𝘶𝘢𝘬𝘦 𝘢𝘵 𝘠𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘱𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘦—

That is my prayer today. I need to be revived, the church needs to be revived.

𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗣𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿 𝗝𝗼𝗵𝗻'𝘀 𝗠𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗮𝗴𝗲: 𝙉𝙖𝙫𝙞𝙜𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝘼𝙄 𝙒𝙞𝙩𝙝 𝙂𝙤𝙙'𝙨 𝙒𝙞𝙨𝙙𝙤𝙢 (Proverbs 9:1; 1 Corinthians 1:18-27)

It is obvious to even the casual observer that knowledge is increasing at an ever increasing rate. Prior to 1900, knowledge doubled every 100 years. By World War II, it was doubling every 25-30 years. Now, we are told it is doubling every 12-13 months. Some say that in the near future it will double every 12-13 hours.

Wisdom is knowing what to do with that knowledge. True wisdom is also being able to discern what is true and what is false. The internet is loaded with stories, reels, and clips that appear at first glance or reading to be accurate, but upon doing in many cases a minimal amount of observation or reading they are fake, inaccurate, or even false.

So, how do we navigate in this chaotic world of increased sometimes true, sometimes false knowledge? We anchor to what is real and unchanging, the Wisdom of God, the Word, the Bible, 𝘑𝘦𝘴𝘶𝘴 𝘊𝘩𝘳𝘪𝘴𝘵. 𝘑𝘦𝘴𝘶𝘴 𝘊𝘩𝘳𝘪𝘴𝘵, 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘴𝘢𝘮𝘦 𝘺𝘦𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘥𝘢𝘺, 𝘵𝘰𝘥𝘢𝘺, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳.

Artificial interlligence used intelligently can be a very useful tool. But, here's what we must ever keep in mind. 𝘼𝙄 𝙘𝙖𝙣 𝙞𝙣𝙛𝙤𝙧𝙢 𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙠𝙞𝙣𝙜, 𝙗𝙪𝙩 𝙞𝙩 𝙢𝙪𝙨𝙩 𝙣𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙧 𝙧𝙚𝙥𝙡𝙖𝙘𝙚 𝙞𝙩.

The challenge for us is to stay alert, and always make sure the knowledge that we are given is in agreement with the Bible.

It will take wisdom to navigate this sea of knowledge correctly, but here's the good news, 𝘉𝘶𝘵 𝘪𝘧 𝘢𝘯𝘺 𝘰𝘧 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘭𝘢𝘤𝘬𝘴 𝘸𝘪𝘴𝘥𝘰𝘮, 𝘭𝘦𝘵 𝘩𝘪𝘮 𝘢𝘴𝘬 𝘰𝘧 𝘎𝘰𝘥, 𝘸𝘩𝘰 𝘨𝘪𝘷𝘦𝘴 𝘵𝘰 𝘢𝘭𝘭 𝘨𝘦𝘯𝘦𝘳𝘰𝘶𝘴𝘭𝘺 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘳𝘦𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘢𝘤𝘩, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘪𝘵 𝘸𝘪𝘭𝘭 𝘣𝘦 𝘨𝘪𝘷𝘦𝘯 𝘵𝘰 𝘩𝘪𝘮. (James 1:5)

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗱 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗦𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗮𝘆'𝘀 𝗠𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗮𝗴𝗲: 𝙉𝙖𝙫𝙞𝙜𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝘼𝙄 𝙍𝙚𝙛𝙡𝙚𝙘𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙂𝙤𝙙'𝙨 𝙒𝙞𝙨𝙙𝙤𝙢 Proverbs 9:10; I Corinthians 1:18-27

Knowledge - The dictionary tells us knowledge is 𝘧𝘢𝘤𝘵𝘴, 𝘪𝘯𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘮𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘴𝘬𝘪𝘭𝘭𝘴 𝘢𝘤𝘲𝘶𝘪𝘳𝘦𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘳𝘰𝘶𝘨𝘩 𝘦𝘹𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘦 𝘰𝘳 𝘦𝘥𝘶𝘤𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯; 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘰𝘳𝘦𝘵𝘪𝘤𝘢𝘭 𝘰𝘳 𝘱𝘳𝘢𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘤𝘢𝘭 𝘶𝘯𝘥𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘯𝘥𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘰𝘧 𝘢 𝘴𝘶𝘣𝘫𝘦𝘤𝘵:

Wisdom - 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘢𝘣𝘪𝘭𝘪𝘵𝘺 𝘵𝘰 𝘶𝘴𝘦 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘬𝘯𝘰𝘸𝘭𝘦𝘥𝘨𝘦 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘦𝘹𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘮𝘢𝘬𝘦 𝘨𝘰𝘰𝘥 𝘥𝘦𝘤𝘪𝘴𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘫𝘶𝘥𝘨𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘴:

There is no question that human knowledge is increasing at an ever-increasing rate. This increase in knowledge has given rise to artificial intelligence which is also being developed at an increasing rate.

Proverbs 9:10 tells us that 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘧𝘦𝘢𝘳 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘓𝘰𝘳𝘥 𝘪𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘣𝘦𝘨𝘪𝘯𝘯𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘰𝘧 𝘸𝘪𝘴𝘥𝘰𝘮. 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗣𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿 𝗝𝗼𝗵𝗻'𝘀 𝗠𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗮𝗴𝗲: 𝙍𝙚𝙛𝙡𝙚𝙘𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙃𝙞𝙨 𝙃𝙤𝙡𝙞𝙣𝙚𝙨𝙨 Leviticus 11:44-45; I Peter 1:13-16' Hebrews 12:14

God is a holy God, heaven is a holy place. If we plan to go to heaven, we must have a pure heart. Jesus made that clear in the Beatitudes when He said, 𝘉𝘭𝘦𝘴𝘴𝘦𝘥 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘱𝘶𝘳𝘦 𝘪𝘯 𝘩𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘵, 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘺 𝘴𝘩𝘢𝘭𝘭 𝘴𝘦𝘦 𝘎𝘰𝘥. The very real implication is that if we do not have a pure heart, we will not see God.

All orthodox Christian religions and denominations agree that we must be holy to enter heaven. The disagreement comes as to when and where that happens.

In 1 Thessalonians 5:23 we are given the means by which we may have a pure heart. 𝘕𝘰𝘸 𝘮𝘢𝘺 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘎𝘰𝘥 𝘰𝘧 𝘱𝘦𝘢𝘤𝘦 𝘏𝘪𝘮𝘴𝘦𝘭𝘧 𝘴𝘢𝘯𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘧𝘺 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘪𝘳𝘦𝘭𝘺; 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘮𝘢𝘺 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘴𝘱𝘪𝘳𝘪𝘵, 𝘴𝘰𝘶𝘭, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘣𝘰𝘥𝘺 𝘣𝘦 𝘱𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘦𝘳𝘷𝘦𝘥 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘱𝘭𝘦𝘵𝘦, 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘣𝘭𝘢𝘮𝘦 𝘢𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘰𝘧 𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘓𝘰𝘳𝘥 𝘑𝘦𝘴𝘶𝘴 𝘊𝘩𝘳𝘪𝘴𝘵. Paul is writing this message to believers. They are Christians, their sins have been forgiven, but they still have the sin nature. The sin nature we were born with is still giving them a polluted heart.

Sanctify : 1. to consecrate; to set apart for holy use. Many will admit to this definition but will not accept the second aspect of sanctify.
2. to purify; to make holy. Paul prays that they may be sanctified entirely, every part of their spirit, soul and body.
3. the tense of the verb, sanctify, as used here is in the aorist tense. It is an action that happens in an instant. Our hearts are purified, and then we go on to grown in grace.

Reflecting God's Holiness

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗱 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗦𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗮𝘆'𝘀 𝗠𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗮𝗴𝗲: 𝙍𝙚𝙛𝙡𝙚𝙘𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙂𝙤𝙙'𝙨 𝙃𝙤𝙡𝙞𝙣𝙚𝙨𝙨 Leviticus 11:44-45; I Peter 1:13-16: Hebrews 10:14

What is your reaction when you hear someone read from the Bible the Apostle Peter's words when he writes, 𝘣𝘶𝘵 𝘭𝘪𝘬𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘏𝘰𝘭𝘺 𝘖𝘯𝘦 𝘸𝘩𝘰 𝘤𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘦𝘥 𝘺𝘰𝘶, 𝘣𝘦 𝘩𝘰𝘭𝘺 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳𝘴𝘦𝘭𝘷𝘦𝘴 𝘢𝘭𝘴𝘰 𝘪𝘯 𝘢𝘭𝘭 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘣𝘦𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘪𝘰𝘳; 16 𝘣𝘦𝘤𝘢𝘶𝘴𝘦 𝘪𝘵 𝘪𝘴 𝘸𝘳𝘪𝘵𝘵𝘦𝘯, “𝘠𝘰𝘶 𝘴𝘩𝘢𝘭𝘭 𝘣𝘦 𝘩𝘰𝘭𝘺, 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘐 𝘢𝘮 𝘩𝘰𝘭𝘺. (I Peter 1:15-16)? Is it, "I can't be holy like God." "God is asking the impossible." Is He?

Our reaction should be, "If God said do something, I need to do it." God never has a never will asked us to do something that He will not enable us to do it.

𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗣𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿 𝗝𝗼𝗵𝗻'𝘀 𝗠𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗮𝗴𝗲: 𝘊𝘩𝘳𝘪𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘢𝘯 𝘊𝘰𝘮𝘮𝘶𝘯𝘪𝘵𝘺 - 𝘛𝘰𝘨𝘦𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳 𝘪𝘯 𝘊𝘩𝘳𝘪𝘴𝘵 Hebrews 10:23-25; Acts 2:42-47

We are admonished as Christians in Hebrews 10:25 . . . (𝘥𝘰 𝘯𝘰𝘵) 𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘴𝘢𝘬𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘢𝘴𝘴𝘦𝘮𝘣𝘭𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘰𝘧 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳𝘴𝘦𝘭𝘷𝘦𝘴 𝘵𝘰𝘨𝘦𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘥𝘰 𝘪𝘵 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘯 𝘮𝘰𝘳𝘦 𝘢𝘴 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘴𝘦𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘥𝘢𝘺 𝘢𝘱𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘢𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨. Christianity is meant to be lived in community, not in isolation.

And, as the end of time draws close, we are admonished to assemble together even more often than we have in the past. Why?

. . .𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘸𝘦 𝘮𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵 𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘮𝘶𝘭𝘢𝘵𝘦 𝘰𝘯𝘦 𝘢𝘯𝘰𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳 𝘵𝘰 𝘭𝘰𝘷𝘦 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘨𝘰𝘰𝘥 𝘥𝘦𝘦𝘥𝘴. We are to love each other. We are to encourage each other.

The idea I can worship God on my own without attending church is not found in the Bible. We are to worship God together.

The early church modeled this for us leaving a great example for us to follow. 𝘋𝘢𝘺 𝘣𝘺 𝘥𝘢𝘺 𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘶𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘰𝘯𝘦 𝘮𝘪𝘯𝘥 𝘪𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘵𝘦𝘮𝘱𝘭𝘦, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘣𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘬𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘣𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘥 [𝘢𝘴]𝘧𝘳𝘰𝘮 𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘴𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘴𝘦, 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘺 𝘸𝘦𝘳𝘦 𝘵𝘢𝘬𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘪𝘳 𝘮𝘦𝘢𝘭𝘴 𝘵𝘰𝘨𝘦𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘨𝘭𝘢𝘥𝘯𝘦𝘴𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘴𝘪𝘯𝘤𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘵𝘺 𝘰𝘧 𝘩𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘵, (Acts 2:46) They were a community with a shared purpose and values.

What was the result? . . .𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘓𝘰𝘳𝘥 𝘸𝘢𝘴 𝘢𝘥𝘥𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘰 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘪𝘳 𝘯𝘶𝘮𝘣𝘦𝘳 𝘥𝘢𝘺 𝘣𝘺 𝘥𝘢𝘺 𝘵𝘩𝘰𝘴𝘦 𝘸𝘩𝘰 𝘸𝘦𝘳𝘦 𝘣𝘦𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘴𝘢𝘷𝘦𝘥.
