Mrs. Geri was born in Jakin, Georgia, to the late Gaston Cannon, Sr. and Ethel McKeller Cannon.

She was a dedicated educator who taught for 32 years in the Walker County School System. Following her retirement, she helped establish the Family Resource Centers in the Walker County Schools. She also worked as a tax preparer for 30 years.

Mrs. Chambers was a devoted member of the LaFayette First Church of God for 71 years. She was known for her generous spirit and her love of giving gifts, many of which she thoughtfully made herself.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Billy “Bill” Chambers; sisters, Tina Davis and Mary Sutton; and brother, Gaston Cannon, Jr.

Survivors include her daughter, Camay Chambers and husband, Tommy Wiley; nieces, Jennifer (Scott) Garrett, Kelsey (Jonathan) and Stevie Holsopple, Alyssa (Dillon Hixson) Young, and Jessica Young; along with several other nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday, September 2, at Garmany Cemetery with Dr. David Boyle and Pastor Richard Fincher officiating.

Pallbearers will be Stacey Meeks, George Payne, Jason Young, Brian Osborn, Keith Bates, Gene Mayberry, Kevin Hale, and Anthony Black.

The family will receive friends from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, September 1, and on Wednesday from 5 p.m. until 5:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
