LOVE IS ETERNAL

“Love never ends. But as for prophecies, they will come to an end; as for tongues, they will cease; as for knowledge, it will come to an end. For we know in part, and we prophesy in part, but when the perfect comes, the partial will come to an end. When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put aside childish things. For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror, but then face to face. Now I know in part, but then I will know fully, as I am fully known. Now these three remain: faith, hope, and love — but the greatest of these is love.”

▪️Because love is a foundational attribute of God, and God is eternal, love will also be eternal.
▪️We can never be separated from the love of God (Romans 8:38-39)
▪️One day, we will have complete, full, intimate knowledge of God’s love.

Encouraging and challenging you to seek intimacy with God every day.

LOVE IS CHRISTLIKE

“Love is patient, love is kind. Love does not envy, is not boastful, is not arrogant, is not rude, is not self-seeking, is not irritable, and does not keep a record of wrongs. Love finds no joy in unrighteousness but rejoices in the truth. It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.”
‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭13‬:‭4‬-‭7

▪️Christ is love, and these are characteristics of Him.
▪️When we focus on Christ, we can show His love to meet the needs of others.
▪️Love persists, even when it’s difficult.

❓How does each of these characteristics describe Jesus?
❓How do these verses guide us to treat others?
❓What does verse 7 tell us to do when love is difficult?

It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.

LOVE IS NECESSARY

“If I speak human or angelic tongues but do not have love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith so that I can move mountains but do not have love, I am nothing. And if I give away all my possessions, and if I give over my body in order to boast but do not have love, I gain nothing.”
‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭13‬:‭1‬-‭3‬

▪️Love is the necessary ingredient for effectiveness.
▪️No gifts are profitable without love.
▪️Any motivation outside of love is selfishness.

God wants families to love and care for each other.

God has given us both physical and spiritual family to love and care for, but we will only be successful in that if we are driven by love.

PUT ON LOVE

“Above all, put on love, which is the perfect bond of unity.”
‭‭Colossians‬ ‭3‬:‭14‬ ‭CSB‬‬

▪️Love is the motivator for all these characteristics.
▪️When we put on the characteristics of Christ, we reflect His love to those who need it most.
▪️Love is the glue that holds spiritual unity together.

❓When we put on love, how are we reflecting Christ to others?

PUT ON FORGIVENESS

“bearing with one another and forgiving one another if anyone has a grievance against another. Just as the Lord has forgiven you, so you are also to forgive. ”
‭‭Colossians‬ ‭3‬:‭13‬

▪️Bearing with one another is a willingness to endure despite differences and frustrations. In a community as diverse as the church, endurance is necessary.
▪️We must forgive because the Lord forgave us of a much greater debt.
▪️When we practice forgiveness, we build pathways to healing and reconciliation.

Read 1 Corinthians 12:14-27. Why is it important that the church is diverse? Why is it also important that it is unified?

PUT ON CHRISTLIKENESS

“Therefore, as God’s chosen ones, holy and dearly loved, put on compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience, ”
‭‭Colossians‬ ‭3‬:‭12‬

▪️Because Christ has generously offered us compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience, we too must take on these characteristics.
▪️We no longer wear the clothing of our old, sinful selves, so we must clothe ourselves in a new, Christlike wardrobe.
▪️When we show these characteristics to others, we are imitating Christ
