Imagine being on death row, knowing that every appeal has been exhausted and your ex*****on is only hours away. Then, at the last possible moment, the governor issues a pardon, setting you free.

The gospel gives us a picture even more profound.

Apart from Christ, Scripture says we are spiritually dead in our sin and separated from God. But God, rich in mercy, sent His Son to take our punishment and offer us forgiveness.

Have you ever said something in a moment of anger that you immediately wished you could take back?

Our words are a lot like toothpaste. It's easy to let them out, but you can’t put them back in.

You can apologize or try to explain... you can ask for forgiveness... But you can't unsay what was said.

James gives us such practical wisdom for avoiding those regrets:

“Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to become angry.” — James 1:19

When emotions are running high, slow down before you speak. Listen. Think. Pray. Examine your heart.

Because once those words are out, they're out.

The next time anxiety creeps in, instead of surrendering to it, pray about it instead.

Philippians 4:6-7 teaches us to bring our requests to God with prayer and thanksgiving. And then comes the promise: the peace of God will guard our hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.

You may not understand how everything will work out, but you can trust the One who does.

This morning's message from Luke 6 gave us four characteristics of the supernatural life, and a seemingly impossible command from Jesus. It's not an easy one, but it's exactly why we need the Holy Spirit guiding us. The impossible command becomes possible when we stop relying on ourselves and trust the One who empowers us.
