Mary Dolores Behnke

Mary Behnke passed away peacefully on May 21, 2026, at the age of 84.

Born on April 21, 1942, Mary was the daughter of James and Mary Reach and grew up in Monterey Park, California. In 1968, she moved to Encinitas, California, where she raised her family, before settling in Kamiah, Idaho, in 1994.

Mary leaves behind a family who loved her deeply and will forever cherish her memory: her devoted husband, Wayne Behnke; her brother, Jim Reach; her three sons, Nick Behnke, Greg Cooper, and Jeff Cooper; her five grandchildren, Ledger Behnke, Taylor Cooper, Ashley Sternberg, Alvaro Cooper, and Isabel Cooper; and her great-grandchild, Theia Sternberg.

For more than 60 years, Mary poured her heart into her work as a beautician. As the owner of her own shop, she did far more than style hair-she helped people feel special, confident, and cared for. That was Mary's gift: she made others feel beautiful, both inside and out.

Mary found joy in the simple, meaningful things that made life beautiful. She loved her church, making crafts, sewing quilts, tending to her flowers and garden, cooking meals that brought the family together, and caring for the dogs and animals on the farm. She will always be remembered for the love she put into everything she made, especially her yearly jams, including her famous jalapeño jam and zucchini relish. These were the kinds of things that reflected her nurturing spirit and the way she made every place-and every person-feel at home.

Mary was a truly kind and gentle soul who touched the lives of so many. She put others before herself without hesitation and cared for those around her with warmth, compassion, and quiet strength. To know her was to feel loved.

Her family finds comfort in knowing that she is now in a better place, reunited in Heaven with God, her parents, and her grandparents, surrounded once again by those who loved her dearly.

Her love lives on in each of us-in the lessons she taught, the values she passed down, and the memories we will hold close forever. Though she is no longer with us in body, her spirit, kindness, and love will continue to guide us each day. She will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and never forgotten.

Services will be held on Monday, June 8, with visitation at 10:00 a.m., Rosary at 10:30 a.m., and Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. A luncheon will follow at St. Catherine's Catholic Church. Burial will take place at Kamiah Cemetery.

On Memorial Day, we honor the men and women who gave their lives in service to our country—those who never made it home, but whose legacy lives on in the families, communities, and freedoms they helped protect.

In our profession, we are reminded that behind every name is a story… a life filled with moments, relationships, and meaning. Today, we hold space for those stories and for the families who carry them forward.

We remember the sacrifice.
We honor the legacy.
We will not forget. 🇺🇸

Wendy Marie Raichart

Wendy Marie Raichart, age 59, passed away May 1, 2026.

Wendy was born February 23, 1967 to Janice and Lui Yandall in Chula Vista, CA. Wendy and the family moved up to Lake Tahoe in 1975 and she graduated from Lake Tahoe High School in 1985. At the age of 22, Wendy was employed by American Airlines in San Jose, CA as a fleet service agent. It is here in San Jose that Wendy met the love of her life, Thomas Michael Raichart and they were married on June 16, 1990. Their first child, Jordan Thomas, was born in 1992 and their daughter, Janessa Marie was born in 1994. Thomas' work kept the family moving! Colorado, Montana, North Dakota, Texas and finally settling in the Clearwater valley in 2003. Once again in 2013, Thomas' postal career took him and Wendy to Utah and then Colorado before returning to Kooskia in 2019.

Wendy had various hobbies throughout her life: scrapbooks, photo albums, personal journals, arts and crafts, etc. Mostly though, she loved being with her husband and engaging in his activities! Camping, hiking, salmon fishing, scenic drives up the Selway and enjoying the beauty of God's creation. She loved spending time with her five grandchildren, all girls!

Wendy came to saving faith in the Lord Jesus Christ in November of 1996. Through fervent prayers both of her children accepted Christ and her husband followed in February 1998. She accepted her God-given role as homemaker, homeschooler, and helpmate to her husband Thomas. Wendy was a great encourager to both family and friends. She had a sixth-sense ability to remember birthdays and anniversaries that was beyond amazing! Above all else, Wendy loved God! Jesus was her all-in-all, lover of her soul, redeemer and best friend. Her greatest desire was to see everyone she knew submit their lives to the Living Savior, Jesus Christ.

Wendy was taken from us far too early and she will be greatly missed! She leaves behind her husband Thomas, son Jordan and his wife Brooke, daughter Janessa and son-in-law Cory; six granddaughters: Nyla, Zaila, Liara, Kyri, Darcy, and Sybil, and her mother Janice Yandall.

Wendy was preceded in death by her father Lui Yandall and John Yandall her brother.

There will be a remembrance service for Wendy at the Life Center on HWY 12, Kamiah ID on Saturday June 6, 2026 at 10am. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Wendy's life with us!

A mother’s love is something we carry with us—through every stage of life. This Mother’s Day, we honor the women who have nurtured, guided, and supported us in ways both big and small. We also recognize that for many, today is a time of remembrance. May the memories you hold bring comfort, and may the love you shared continue to surround you.

Jack Breen

Jack Breen passed away Saturday, April 25, 2026. He was born in 1933 in St. Paul, Minn., into a family of 10 children. He moved to Kooskia, at 12 years old, and at 18 years of age, he married his beloved wife Leona Tinney. They were married 73 and a half years prior to Leona's passing, they had four beautiful daughters.

He worked at Potlatch Forests Inc., for 32 years, he then became a business owner in Colorado for five years before returning to Kooskia where Jack worked for School District No. 241 for nine years, before retiring in 1997.

He enjoyed working in his shop and on his collector cars, but his heart belonged to volunteering with groups like the Civil Air Patrol youth program, and the Gideons International Association where he ministered to inmates and spread the gospel. He served two terms on the Kooskia City Council and was a civil servant which gave him great pride. Jack was the pillar of his community but his most notable legacy was his vast family unit as he cherished family values.

He is survived by four daughters, seven grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren. His family meant everything to him, and he was loved dearly by all of them. He was loved by all that knew him, and he loved everyone that he encountered unconditionally.

He will be remembered at a celebration of life at 11 a.m., Saturday, May 9, at the Kooskia Elementary School Gym. Burial will follow and then a reception will be held at the Kooskia City Hall. Please bring a favorite dish to share. It would be greatly appreciated.

In lieu of flowers, please send contributions to his memorial funds at the service.
