What if the greatest threat to our worship is not what we do wrong, but what we do for the wrong reasons? This message takes us back to one of the oldest stories in Scripture, the account of Cain and Abel in Genesis 4, to uncover a truth that cuts straight to the core of our spiritual lives. Both brothers brought offerings. Both went through the motions. And yet God responded to one and not the other. The difference was not the offering itself, as Hebrews 11:4 makes clear, but the condition of the heart behind it. We are challenged to ask ourselves an uncomfortable question: are we bringing our hearts to God, or are we simply bringing a performance? The story of Cain is a sobering reminder that when our hearts drift from sincerity, sin does not wait patiently. It crouches at the door. And the longer we allow pride, resentment, or self-promotion to take root, the harder it becomes to turn back. This is not just an ancient story. It is the story of every Sunday morning when we walk through the doors looking polished on the outside while carrying something far messier on the inside. The invitation here is to stop hiding and start surrendering, because God has never been interested in our optics. He has always been after our hearts.
