WHO IS THE WEDDING CLOSET?

The Wedding Closet is a ministry/group within the Ladies Ministry. It was established many years ago when several young ladies from our church family were all getting married around the same time. The mothers of the brides and grooms—often referred to as the MOB—decided to collaborate in order to help each other with the wedding receptions and save money. They agreed to prepare and serve the food items chosen by the brides for each reception. After this initial group organized and planned the receptions, they recognized that this could be a valuable ministry to offer to any bride getting married at our church. Thus, the Wedding Closet was created. Over the years, people have contributed various items for decorations, serving pieces, and much more. Each bride is encouraged to donate an item that she used in her wedding to the closet, allowing future brides to have even more options to choose from for their special day.

WHAT DO WE DO AS A GROUP?

When a bride decides to have her wedding at the West End building, she can notify the Wedding Closet coordinator. They will meet to discuss how this ministry can assist her. Typically, the bride is shown the closet, which contains various serving ideas, as well as other items from the congregation that can be used for decorating. The ladies of the Wedding Closet are primarily responsible for purchasing, preparing, and serving the food that the bride chooses for her reception. While we offer suggestions and ideas, our main goal is to help the bride create her dream reception as close to perfect as possible. We are available to answer questions and provide recommendations about the arrangement of the food, but we are not necessarily in charge of the overall decorations. However, we do take care of cleaning up all areas we use and pack any leftover food for the family to take home. The only cost for the bride and groom is the price of the food. Cooking, set-up, serving, and clean-up are done at our facility free of charge. Our main objective is to serve the bride and her family, alleviating some of the stress during this busy time.

TUESDAY SPOTLIGHT: THIS IS US!
🤸‍♀️"Exercise & Stretching Class" 👟

WHO IS THE EXERCISE & STRETCHING CLASS?
The Exercise & Stretching Class is a group exercise class that started around mid-2017. Lynn and Elsie Freeman proposed the idea to Larry Horton, asking him to initiate an exercise program for West End. Since then, they have met every Wednesday at 10:00, with the exception of a two-year hiatus during the pandemic.

WHO IS THIS GROUP FOR?
Anyone is welcome and encouraged to join the exercise and stretching class if you want to improve your strength and flexibility.

WHAT DO WE DO AS A GROUP?
We meet for approximately 40 minutes every Wednesday for our class. Each session includes stretching for both the upper and lower body, core training, and strength training with weights that you choose. The class fosters interaction and provides a time for fellowship and conversation. We have fun together, thanks to the many interesting personalities in the group. Additionally, we work hard, encouraging everyone to complete each repetition for every set at their own comfort level.

Amazing news!

After service, we witnessed the spiritual birth of Jenny Zhang. Jenny is originally from Kingsport, Tennessee, but currently lives in Knoxville while attending LMU College of Dental Medicine, where she is pursuing a degree in dentistry.

When Jenny and Nathaniel Bowen began dating in March of 2025, Jenny was not yet a Christian. Her parents are first-generation immigrants from China and practice Buddhism, so she had very little exposure to Christianity growing up. Early in their relationship, Nathaniel shared that he could not see himself marrying someone who was not a follower of Christ. Together, they made a unique agreement: Nathaniel would study Chinese so he could better communicate with her parents, and Jenny would study the Bible.

Over the past year, many faithful Christians have walked alongside Jenny in her spiritual journey. Her friends Abby, Grace, and Michaela spent time studying God’s Word with her, and Abby even bought Jenny her very first Bible. Nathaniel and Jenny frequently discussed spiritual matters, what Christ desires for our lives, and questions she had about Scripture. When Jenny began asking questions about the Lord’s Supper, Nathaniel introduced the subject of baptism, and her interest in following Christ continued to grow.

In recent months, Jenny has been praying, singing, and expressing a deep desire to be part of God’s family. Then today, without any prompting, she told Nathaniel that Brother Miller’s words had deeply impacted her and that she wanted to be baptized.

Although she had an appointment scheduled for noon, Jenny returned after services and was baptized into Christ.

What a beautiful reminder of the power of God’s Word, the influence of faithful friends, and the patience of those who lovingly share the Gospel. Please join us in welcoming our new sister in Christ and praying for her continued growth and faithfulness.

“Likewise, I say to you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents.” — Luke 15:10

Praise God!
