We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of retired Chief Master Sgt. Howard “Jim” Mowry. Chief Mowry was a decorated veteran of the Gulf War and Operation Iraqi Freedom, who served as the Command Chief Master Sgt. for Air Force Special Operations Command from August 2003 until his retirement in August 2006.
During his 29 years of distinguished service, he was a pivotal leader and mentor to thousands of Airmen. As the only Air Force Command Chief deployed to Northern Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom, he provided crucial leadership to over 5,000 joint force enlisted members. His unwavering dedication, expertise, and tireless advocacy for the welfare of our Airmen left an indelible mark on the Air Force. He was a true Quiet Professional whose legacy of leadership and service will not be forgotten. We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family and all who knew him.
