🌟 Traditional or Contemporary? Let’s Talk Worship Music at KNAZ! 🌟
Hey KNAZ family,
I’ll be honest — I’m a little nervous posting this because worship music can sometimes stir up strong feelings! But I also know we’re a family that loves Jesus and loves each other, so I thought it would be good to share what’s been on my heart.
When I was a kid, church music was mostly the same beloved hymns every week. We’d sing Blessed Assurance, I’ll Fly Away, Jesus Paid It All, How Great Thou Art, It Is Well With My Soul, and Because He Lives. My absolute favorites as a child were Onward Christian Soldiers and Jesus Loves Me.
Because we sang them so often, I learned every word. And every time I sing them now, I’m instantly transported back to sitting in church with my mom (and sometimes my dad), surrounded by the congregation singing with joy and peace. Those hymns made me feel safe, loved, and part of something much bigger than myself. They still do.
At the same time, I’ve come to love a lot of Contemporary Worship too. Songs like Open The Eyes Of My Heart, I Could Sing Of Your Love Forever, Here I Am To Worship, and How Great Is Our God have deeply touched my heart over the years.
These days our church does more contemporary music, and I understand why — it’s what many of us are familiar and comfortable with. As someone on the worship team, I’ll admit it’s often easier to play the newer songs too. But I still love the old hymns and would be thrilled to bring more of them back into our services.
So here’s my question for you, KNAZ family:
What do you prefer — Traditional hymns or Contemporary worship songs?
If you could pick the songs for an entire Sunday service, what would you choose?
Drop your favorites in the comments! Let’s celebrate the beautiful ways we can all worship our Lord together — whether the music is 100 years old or written yesterday. Both can point us to Jesus.
I’d love to hear your thoughts! 💛
In Christ,
Roy Hayes
