What a difference a day can make!

The trim work is now complete, and the final coat of paint will be applied tomorrow. Flooring installation is scheduled to begin by the end of the week, bringing us one step closer to opening the doors of our new church home.

Meanwhile, all of our liturgical furnishings have been sanded and are in the process of being refinished so that they complement one another and create a unified worship space.

This progress is a testament to what God is doing through our church community and is made possible by the dedication, generosity, and hard work of our parishioners. From the Building Search Team and Finance Team to the Worship Design Team, countless hands and hearts have helped bring this vision to life.

Together, we are creating a sustainable spiritual home where all God’s people can gather in prayer, grow in faith, and experience the unconditional love of Jesus Christ for years to come.

Wiggles and giggles are the sign of a living and thriving church.

We are blessed to welcome parishioners of all ages each week to our parish and we want to ensure everyone feels welcome and included!

Starting on Sunday, July 5, we will launch in our new location with two Mass offerings:

9:00 Meditative Mass: This 30 to 40 minute Mass will have a quiet and contemplative setting w/o music on most Sundays.

10:30 Traditional Mass: This 60 minute Mass will include hymns and the sung Mass setting led by our choir along with a children's homily each week.

The nursery will be open for both Masses, but the 10:30 Mass will have a special activity each Sunday that connects our little ones with the scripture readings for the day.

Construction work on the new chapel is moving right along. New walls will be painted by the end of the week, coffee bar (for the unofficial 8th sacrament) is coming right along, and light oak flooring will begin next week.

The space is much more open than the photos convey, but you will find out for yourselves soon enough at our July 5 launch.

We cannot wait to open our doors in the heart of Kansas City as an affirming, missional, Catholic community!

At Good Shepherd Church, we believe that all children of God bear the imago Dei, the image of God, and that, as creations of the Father, we are called to receive and share the unconditional love of Jesus Christ.

In a world so often marked by judgment, division, and dehumanization, we are called by the Sacred Heart of Jesus to build communion with one another and to love our neighbors as ourselves. We celebrate our diversity as a strength, knowing that through the sharing of our gifts and backgrounds, the whole Church is made more vibrant by the Holy Spirit.

This Memorial Day, we give thanks for the courage and sacrifice of the brave men and women in uniform who paid the ultimate price in defense of our freedoms.

We also hold in prayer the families who continue to bear the weight of that sacrifice, remembering with gratitude all who lost loved ones while serving in our nation’s armed forces.

May their courage never be forgotten, and may their sacrifice call us to cherish, protect, and pursue the peace for which they gave their all.
