Jesus told us to follow him, especially as he sought out those who were shunned from proper religious and social life, like tax collectors and sinners and bleeding women. This is why we stand up for all people, especially those we want to avoid. We walk beside those who have been treated abominably for any reason—not because we're being trendy, but because that’s who Jesus is. It's who we are called to be. We wear orange today because all people deserve dignity and those who died by gun violence had their humanity senselessly taken from them. Our neighbors are begging to know that the love and healing and salvation we proclaim are REAL. So I ask you sincerely—if it is, why would we ever keep it to ourselves?
