To know where we are headed in the future, we must have a complete understanding of where the church has come from! Our church, Jeffersonville Church of God, has had a remarkable journey for the past 35 years. Our history began in the heart of two brothers and their families. Frank & Bill Shepherd with their wives and children set out to establish a Pentecostal church in Jeffersonville, Georgia. A

long with Pastor Walter Shuman and the dedicated friends from Southside Church of God in Warner Robins (at the present the name changed to River of Light Church of God) the church was chartered on February 23, 1975. When this church started years ago, teaching and reaching children were high priorities. Many of the children of yesterday are now the adults teaching our children today. We give glory to God that a generation has grown up in the church, stayed in the church, and today are serving the church - singing in the choir, playing musical instruments, teaching Sunday School, and serving on the Church and Pastor’s Council. The Jeffersonville Church of God has grown from 11 charter members - 4 male, 7 female - to our current membership of 179. I know God is working. God still wants to work through people. Let’s be the people that God will work through. I sense the Lord speaking to His people from the scripture found in 2 Chronicles 7:14: “If my people who are called by my name; will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.” I sense the Lord is still calling out to His people, the Jeffersonville Church of God. After all these years, just look what the Lord has done.
