“I’m tired. I mean like… Vacation Bible School kind of tired.”
And if you’ve ever served in VBS, you know exactly what that means.
It means sticky floors, glitter in places glitter should never be, endless games, last-minute crafts, and hearing “Can I have a snack?” approximately 4,327 times a night
It means coming home exhausted, your voice half gone, your feet aching, and wondering if you have enough energy to do it all again tomorrow.
But it also means something else.
It means watching a child hear about Jesus in a way that finally clicks.
It means hearing innocent prayers that remind you what faith looks like when it’s simple and pure.
It means planting seeds that you may never see fully grow this side of heaven.
VBS is quickly approaching , and while many of us are already tired just thinking about it, we’re also excited. Because VBS isn’t really about crafts, decorations, games, or even snacks.
It’s about eternity.
Some of these children will hear that Jesus loves them for the very first time.
Some will learn that they are seen, valued, and created with a purpose.
Some may walk through the church doors carrying burdens far too heavy for little shoulders, and for a few hours they’ll be surrounded by people who love them, encourage them, and point them to Christ.
So if you’re planning to volunteer for VBS , we thank you.
Thank you for the preparation no one sees.
Thank you for the late nights and early mornings.
Thank you for sacrificing your time, energy, and comfort for the sake of the next generation.
And if you’re not serving, please pray.
Pray for the volunteers.
Pray for the families.
Pray for every child who walks through those doors.
Because while VBS may leave us exhausted, there is nothing more worth being tired for than helping children discover the love of Jesus.
Now excuse me while I start preparing for VBS…making a mess in my home and church, stocking up on coffee, prayer, and patience. VBS starts June 27 with a Luau party from 1-5 then nightly Sunday through Wednesday 6-8:30 pm
Hope to see you there!!
