Thank you to Firehouse Design Studio, Inc for their excellent work this past year with our new wayfinding signs inside and out. Firehouse staff have been a joy to work with on this project. Their ideas for our challenging multi-building campus were brilliant. Both Firehouse and Brown Printing were phenomenal. Thanks for helping us welcome warmly (and now clearly!)

As conversations about women in pastoral roles continue across Baptist life and in the news, we want to be clear: First Baptist wholeheartedly affirms women in ministry.

This isn't a departure from Scripture and tradition. It's rooted in it.

We believe the Bible when it says:
๐Ÿ“– Women and men alike would preach because of the coming of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost. Joel 2:28โ€“29, Acts 2:17
๐Ÿ“– It was women who first announced the resurrection of Christ in all four gospels. Matt. 28, Mark 16, Luke 24, John 20
๐Ÿ“– The evangelist Philip had four daughters who had the gift of preaching. Acts 21:9
๐Ÿ“– Phoebe served as a deaconess in the early church. Rom. 16:1
๐Ÿ“– In Christ, all distinctions (social, ethnic, economic, and gender) are done away with. Gal. 3:28, Acts 2:17, Joel 2:28-29

Baptists in England and the U.S. have ordained women as deacons and preachers since the 1600s. This is not new ground. It is faithful ground.

๐Ÿงก FBC JC began ordaining women deacons in 1994. 13 of our 44 active deacons are women.
๐Ÿงก We have ordained four women to the Gospel Ministry.
๐Ÿงก Today, we are blessed to have two female pastors on staff, including our Lead Pastor.

The women who are deacons and on the pastoral team at FBC JC make an invaluable, life-giving contribution to the kingdom and bear witness to God's calling upon their lives.

We are grateful to be part of the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship denomination, which supports and advocates for women in ministry. https://cbf.net/cbfs-baxley-god-equally-calls-women-and-men-to-all-places-of-leadership-in-the-church-including-preaching-pastoral-leadership-and-as-senior-pastor/

We pray for all who are discerning a call to serve. And if you're a woman wondering if there's a church where your calling is truly welcome, or a parent raising daughters and sons who should see women lead, we welcome you.

We are enjoying our day long game drive here at Masai Mara. The team shared a picnic lunch along the Mara River and then took a photo with some of our team in Kenya and some in Tanzania! What a beautiful part of Godโ€™s creation to share together. ๐Ÿ‡ฐ๐Ÿ‡ช

Day 5: The Last Day. Today is our final day at the Well, and it was packed. We did a nature walk with the kids through the community - 82 kids, 10 staff, and a few โ€œmzungusโ€ on parade. (Mzungu = white person)

We came back for lunch, and then our team set up โ€œactivity stations.โ€ The children were divided into groups and spent about 20 minutes at each with a variety of activities from making prayer boxes, affirmation pages, and completing puzzles to tasting unique foods and painting their nails.

Each year, we end the week providing little sausages, animal crackers, and sodas for all! Some kids have never had a soda.

We wrap up our time with words, presentations, photos, hugs, and tears. Yes - always tears.

Oasis for Orphans is doing a tremendous job providing holistic care to these children as they share the love of God in word and deed. the Well truely is an oasis of the kingdom of God in the midst of this community. It is our joy and honor to partner with them.

Tomorrow, we head to Masai Mara for the safari portion of our trip.
