6:30 P.M. Evening Prayer
7:00 P.M. Wednesday Books.

Evening Prayer begins at 6:30 P.M. in the sanctuary's south transept. We will commemorate the Emanuel Nine, martyrs, d. 2015.

At 7:00 P.M. the Wednesday Books group begins a new book, "The Four Loves" by C.S. Lewis. Now is a great time to jump in with the group!

"In this candid, wise, and warmly personal book, C.S. Lewis gently reflects on the four basic kinds of human love--affection, friendships, erotic love, charity. He explores the promise and the perils of love between parents and children; love men share with other men and women with other women; love shared between men and women; and the love of and for God that deepens all love. Lewis also considers the questions of s*x, possessiveness, jealousy, pride, false sentimentality, good and bad manners in loving, and the need for more laughter between lovers. There are risks that accompany the rewards of love, the author cautions, but he recommends taking them, since 'the only place outside Heaven where you can be perfectly safe from all the dangers and perturbations of love is Hell.'"

The word "diakonia" comes from the Greek word for service.

For generations, deaconesses have lived out that calling by serving in congregations, hospitals, schools, social service agencies, campuses, and communities around the world.

Diakonia is more than a ministry role. It is a way of following Jesus by walking alongside others with compassion, dignity, and hope.

That calling continues today.
