TAB Recreation

Located at 34th & Central in Downtown Indianapolis, Tab Rec, Founded in 1924, is one of the oldest recreation programs in the nation.

Teaching hundreds of youth each year the importance of Faith and Fitness. Tab Recreation is an inner-city youth sports program that offers children ages 5-15 an opportunity to play sports in a Christian environment. Tab Recreation has developmental competitive leagues in football (flag & tackle), basketball, soccer, track, cheerleading/dance, chess, and soon wrestling.

Today was a special day as we celebrated Troy Chilton as a recipient of the Louis A. Dawson Award, Tab Recreation’s highest volunteer distinction.

Established in 1957, the Dawson Award honors adult volunteers who have demonstrated extraordinary service to Tab Recreation, while remembering the legacy of Louis A. Dawson and his devotion to the program.

Troy, congratulations on this well-deserved honor! Your time, leadership, generosity, and commitment to serving others have made a meaningful difference. I’m incredibly grateful for all you have done for Tab Recreation and for the people and families you have impacted along the way.

It was an honor to celebrate you today and to see you recognized among the outstanding volunteers who have received this award over the years.

Congratulations, Kaiden Martin!

Tab Recreation is proud to congratulate Kaiden Martin on being awarded the Bud Harris Scholarship!

Kaiden has been an outstanding member of the Tab Recreation family. He played two years of soccer at Tab and four years of football with the Tab Bears. He has also generously given his time back to the program by volunteering with flag football as a coach, as well as helping with concessions and scorekeeping.

A graduate of Cathedral High School, Kaiden was a member of the wrestling and football programs, where he was the starting left tackle, and he also played rugby for the Royal Irish. He graduated with an impressive 3.8 GPA and will continue his education at Marian University, where he plans to pursue a degree in Exercise Science.

Kaiden is extremely grateful to receive this scholarship and credits his father and mother, along with his coaches and mentors at Tab, for instilling the faith, character, work ethic, and values that have guided him throughout his journey.

We couldn’t be more proud of Kaiden and all that he has accomplished and we can’t wait to see what the future holds! Congratulations, Kaiden! We wish you continued success at Marian University!

This week has been a bust for soccer practice! Unfortunately, there is a fair amount of lightning moving into the area, and with the fields already soggy and wet, we are going to cancel soccer practice for tonight.
We appreciate your understanding and hope to get everybody back on the fields on Saturday!

🏈 What a weekend for Tab Saints football!

Our kids brought energy, heart, and hustle all game. You could see the growth in every rep, every play, and every huddle. This is exactly what youth football should be about: kids having fun, building confidence, and getting better together. Huge shoutout to our coaching staff for the preparation, patience, and leadership they brought to the sideline. You all make this program what it is!

🏆 Congratulations to Arynn G., the 2026 Bud Harris Scholarship Recipient! 🏆
Arynn has been an incredible part of the TAB Recreation family, serving as both a dedicated participant and an outstanding volunteer. Her hard work, leadership, and commitment have made a lasting impact on our program and our community.

Her high school accomplishments speak for themselves:

🏈 2026 Flag Football Offensive Player of the Year
🤼‍♀️ 7th Place at the 2026 Indiana Girls Wrestling State Finals

This fall, Arynn will continue her academic and athletic journey at Illinois Wesleyan University, where she will compete in both Flag Football and Wrestling.

⛳ TAB REC ALUMNI—IT’S TIME TO COME HOME!

For generations, Tab Rec has been more than a place to play. It is where friendships were formed, coaches became mentors, families came together, and young people learned lessons that stayed with them long after the final whistle.

As we celebrate the 50th Annual Tab Deacons Golf Outing, we are inviting former Tab Rec players, coaches, parents, volunteers, and supporters to return for a special Tab Rec Alumni Homecoming at Eagle Creek Golf Course.

Reconnect with old teammates. Catch up with former coaches. Share the stories, laughter, and memories that made your years at Tab so special. Whether you participate in the full golf outing, choose the 9-hole option, or join the group hike, everyone will gather afterward for a buffet lunch and fellowship.

Your registration will also support the Benevolent Fund and scholarships for children in our neighborhood, helping today’s young people receive some of the same opportunities that shaped generations of Tab Rec alumni.
